Hi everyone. Thinking of getting back into flying IMAC again. It's been around 8 or 10 years of not flying. I am hoping someone can help me with a couple questions that I have. I have a 3W100 that I bought just before I stopped flying. I will be starting out, I think in the Sportsman class. What disadvantages will I have by not flying a 40% airplane? Will I be flying against mostly 40% airplanes? I know a larger airplane presents better, but I would like to use the engine that I have know. If I have to I will go with a 40% airplane to start. One thing I don't want to happen, is to be at a disadvantage with my airplane and the airplane holding me back on scores. I am looking at a Dalton Airplane a 260 EXTRA 35% or 40%. What airplane are most people finding fly the best. 260, 300, 330 EXTRA, Yak, etc. When I got out of flying, Hitec was not a very good servo, it looks like know that a lot of people are flying with them. What do you think about them? Looking forward to having a good time again. I am going to leave my number if anyone in the Los Angeles, Ventura area would like to call please feel free. I will be looking for a place to fly that have a few IMAC pilots flying at the site for help at getting started again. Thanks Bill Siler 661-435-3634 |

Bill, In Sportsman you can be successful running a 100cc size plane. I've seen a lot of planes this size win that class. That being said, a 40% is an advantage, and is the size of choice if you can swing it. The good news is that there are a lot of great ARFs, and good used planes to choose from. The new Hitec 5955 servos are excellent, very strong, last a long time, and are affordable. Those and the JR 8711 seem to be the servos of choice these days. The IMAC crowd is very relaxed and welcome new participants. They will be happy to help you out. I am in San Diego, but there are a number of guys flying in the high desert area. I look forward to seeing you at an event. -STEVE- |
