| It will fly!!! |
The first few pilots had a fairly calm day for their flights. As the day progresses the competition picks up and the wind follows suit. The wind forecast today is for up to 20 MPH constant wind speed with gusts up to 35. The planes are crabbing for the runway, and the question returns "does an airborne plane weather vane?" The wind is straight from the pilots back. One of the constant discussions among the pilots is how bad the planes are blowing out, and the difficulty keeping the lines straight trying to correct for the wind. Some of the pilots are even deciding to land at an angle across the runway, actually touching down in the short grass off the side of the runway first. The decision was even made to allow the pilots to walk to the end of the runway and land cross runway with roll out into the grass out past the end of the pits. Today is the last day of regular competition, with one Unknown and one Known being dropped tonight before the decision is made as to who will fly tomorrow. The top five make the cut!!! Finished my flying for the day, all I can say is fun!!!! 30 mph winds directly from are backs . . . fun fun fun!! Buried ailerons, and starting into the rudder on landing . . . Sportsman and Unlimited are almost done, then for the Invitational class . . . Hempel's 50% 260 should handle the wind well!!!! Seth |
