Question First time with exponential

Hi everybody:

I finished building my Edge 540T. The instructions said to put 20 degrees and 40% of expo in ailerons and elevator for sport fly (and 40° with 50% expo for 3D). It is my first experience with exponential.

Yesterday we made the maiden flight. The plane was rather nervous to the controls. As this is my first experience with expo in the radio I would like to know if I should put more expo or reduce control throw and why.

Thank you...

Pablo.

Nervous??

Hmmmm...

What radio are you using?
and did you put negative or positive expo in?

Pablo,

If you're using a Futaba radio, expo needs to be set in negative numbers to soften the feel. -40% for sport and -50% for 3D. If you're using JR, use 40 and 50% respectively.

Hi:

Nervous = sensitive (small stick input produces great changes in flight). I am using a Futaba 6EXA. I put negative expo. I want to produce less control throw in center stick position; that's why I think that the plane has too much control throw. May be that I should have put positive expo?

Pablo.

negative for Futaba......

you could try turning the rates down a bit....
I like quite a bit of Expo...but it is personal preference

Hey man, you can go back to basics, and lower your low rate throw, and get rid of some expo. Then the response will be less disconnected. 20 degrees of elevator is a ton. I personally fly with between 7-12 degrees for IMAC.

Many people susbscribe to the theory that an unused computer radio is usless. I used to fly with a bunch of expo, and realized I like it better with less throw, AND less expo. Just my $.02

I totally agree. I am flying IMAC at less then 12 degrees right now and the plane flys great. you might try changing the throw down on the elevator to get use to the feel of the plane then move it back up to more throw if needed.
I use 35-50 on expo and 7-10 degees on my elevator for IMAC.

I like LOTS of throw, and a hefty amount of expo... but I don't win many trophies at IMAC. I also didn't use expo until I got into large planes, but it makes things far easier, now I use it on every plane.

Duel rates, low rates with 10 degrees of throw and -50% expo and high rates with all you can get with -80% expo on ailerons and elevators, -80% expo on the rudder with all you can get all the time, no low. After you get used to that you can play with throttle curves.
