Default Help with flying site

Our club has been flying from a closed landfill for several years. The area around our field is starting to have a lot of building around the field. So we are looking to find another site. We are going to approach the city to see if anything else is available. I would like to have several photos of other flying fields that are on cith property to take with us when we approach the city officals. I would like any clubs that use city or county property to post a photo of their field. Thanks Raymond

Ray,

You can grab the satellite photo off of the RCCD thread in this forum, it's State of Michigan property, but it might do you some good.

C'mon fellas, let's all try and give Ray a hand here!!

Thanks in advance.

I thought I'd bring it to your thread for you, I don't know if it will help, did it anyway.

Thanks Ray,

We have about 1200 x 300 groomed, with another 300 of brush before the trees, in the width.
It intimidates some fliers because we are surrounded by trees, but it isn't hard to fly inside the tree line, just looks scary.

cfour,

Good luck with your search, it's gotta' suck losing your field.

Thumbs up Re: Help with flying site

Interseting, Our club is here in SoCal, thers is a $hit load of building going on. We are also on a closed land fill. We managed to get our club in exclusionary agreement(?) for the development across the road from us. And we belong to the Chamber of Commerce, it gives you some credibility. You want to come across a a well organized group rather than a bunch of dudes with toy planes, no whatta' mean? But to the good part, We had this issue come up not to long ago. I seriously doubt ( read as "it aint happening") that you will lose your field to someone who wants to buy the land. It is entirely to costly to re-open, clean and then move all that old trash to a new dump. It just isnt cost effective. The EPA and so on make it next to impossible. SOOOooo, you have to make the club as responsible and well organized as possible. Make liason with the developers and with the county and city government, and build a good relationship with them. It takes work, invite the local elementary kids for a day or go to the school etc. Have the scouts cook at your next fun fly, if the community sees you as family oriented, good clean, all american fun, it will be on your side when it comes to keeping the site.

And if you do have to move, get with the AMA as soon as you can and look into the superfund sites.

Good luck with it,
