Buyer/Seller History and Formal Regisration For F/G Classifieds Users?

Who would like to see a buyer/seller history like on RCU and E-Bay and some sort of formal registration for those using the classifieds to lesson the amont of Jim Stovall's out there like Real name address and phone numbers confirmed?

I for one would like to see some sort of requirement for posting ads. Maybe it would defer the Jim Stovalls from screwing people over. I for one am not afraid to give my personal information to some one who is looking to purchase a product from me, no matter what the price is.

It is not that diffucult, there are other forums that I belong to and before you are granted membership they require you to feel in the personel information. This site has it as well.

I think it would be a good idea, although I'm not sure how hard that would be to set up. I'll bring it up to Max and see if it's something we can do with the set up we have now.

Obviously we would have hoped that our members wouldn't rip off other members. And that is the case, with our regular membership, but the hard part is stopping someone from signing up with the sole intention of ripping off a fellow RC'er, makes you wanna' just puke...

Thanks for the PM, I'll see if it's a viable option with our current software.

Unfortunately, the other sites with swap shops dont take much to fool either and anyone can sign up for them with very little information given. I have given little to no information for example on RCU, and several other sites, and have the ability to post in the swap shop whenever I please. The ideal system would be something like what EBAY has setup, and even thats not 100% scam free. People still rip people off every day, and other than ban the account and the user. Im trying to dig up the 60 minutes episode on Ebay and scammers on Youtube, and Ebay's "dispute resolution team" just to give you an idea how there is no perfect world out there.

All true but on rcu there is a history of the selling and buying that people can post whether they were ripped off by a certain person under the sellers info. Warning some one not to sending huge moneys to some one with no order history or buyer ratings.

Agreed. The rating system is nice, but unfortunately, guys still send money to guys with zero posts, and zero feedback. I have asked for references before on large ticket items. Other members with post history and such. Thats a fairly good way to verify someone. If they give you a member name that joined yesterday, obviously the jig is up. Another way to protect your interest is by using PayPal, and specifically, using your credit card. Paypal collects alot of info on the senders and the receivers of funds in order to do the transfer. On paypal, you only have several ways you can get your money being check or EFT, or debit options. Insist that they are a PayPal "verified" member meaning that their checking account has been verified by paypal to exist. To have opened this account, the corresponding bank would have had to follow patriot act guidelines regarding ID requirements and physical address information along with SS# info etc. Is this a 100% sure bet, no, but alot better than sending someone a cashiers check, money order, or wire. Most guys scamming people on RC websites are just small time crooks, not the same level that you see on EBAY, and other auction sites. Granted, if you see a 14MZ for sale for a grand from Pakistan, from a guy with zero posts, i wouldnt recommend persuing that item... we scan our swap shop frequently and delete ads like this that we see, but we are not perfect, and we dont catch them all.

Who's to say I couldnt set up some e-mail account, recieve money and not send the goods and then shut the e-mail acct down?? I think there is an old saying called "Buyer Beware" Just because there is a team set up to try and stop thieves doesnt mean they will catch them. Thats the bad thing about the world wide web. You never really know who you are talking to. I think what everyone wants to set up is a waist of time. Yes, I do buy online but only from people I know. That keeps me safe!! And yes I see a ton of stuff I would like to buy from others but just dont trust people unless I have met them and have known them for a bit. I also work at a large bank and see counterfit checks, money orders and travelers checks all the time which has kept me from buying stuff from individuals online. You wouldnt believe how good these fake items are. Most of them you can't tell. Have you ever seen a $100 dollar bill made from a REAL $5 bill?? I have, seen several and you cant tell its fake, the black marker marks good also on the bill!! I'm just making a point that you can get scammed anyway possible and there is no "real" way to stop it.
