Hello, I have this kit , A 92" wingspan Kraft(Phil Kraft) Super Fli (kitted by Ohio Superstar). Plans say that it a 30% scale of his (Phil Kraft's) full scale aerobatic aircraft that he designed and flew. Finished weight is supposed to be around 20 to 24 lbs. Foam core sheeted wings. Length from front of cowl to rear of rudder is 70" Anyway, Have any of you seen, or built one of these? I bought this kit back in the mid 1980's From (i think ) Tower Hobbies. I have a Quadra 75 and a BCM 3 pipe muffler to use on this. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!! eg: servo recommendations, any strengthening recommendations?? Thanx. Doug |

I've flown both the smaller version and the 30%. Back in the day, this plane was one of the biggest things going! Phil Kraft (Kraft radios) built the full scale. Simple red/ white color scheme, but the lines of thos plane are still timeless. Doug you have a REAL sweet heart there. You really don't see this plane very much (if at all) but it is a really nice looking beast. Keep us in the loop with the build! Lucky man to have her as I'm sure you know!! Biff

one of these!?!?!? Real thick airfoil I seem to recall..... I think the real plane used a Pitts Cowl and tail group... I think the current owner has put a new wing on it... (I am not positive about that though) superfly.jpg Here.... http://www.rcvengines.com/gallery/rcv60sp_superfli.htm and here..... actually... it had Pitts landing gear....

Yes, You got a pic of it. And yes, it does have a somewhat thick airfoil. I have had this kit since around 1985 or 1986. it was kitted by Ohio Superstar, they nolonger make airplane kits, I dont know of anybody kitting this airplane anymore. It is a cool looking airplane. That is why I thought about starting it and doing a build thread on here. So I have something a little different at our local clubs field. I just wanted a few pointers. I saw a couple of these fly at a flyin (20 some years ago) and one guy had a Sachs 3.7 and another had a sachs 4.2. I have a new Quadra 75 just sitting around and thought that I could use it on the Super Fli. Thanx Doug |

Old as dirt huh??? haha I am 49 i suppose dirt is at least that old, ha I see that someone still makes these airplanes. But mine has a 92" wingspan and they don't make the super fli this big anymore one thing though... even though it has a 92" wingspan it is only around 70 to 75" long.....ya aint gonna 3D with this one. Gotta put the radio gear in the tail to ballance it. |

You might want to track down Steve Nelson. He flies with the Chula Vista club. He is the only man to have flown the Super-Fli in IAC competition. He was friends with Phil and more or less his personal CFI. Steve has more hours in the real Super-Fli than anyone. In fact, I'm not sure if anyone else ever flew the plane. I have built a 60" super-fli and have a cowl and tail feathers for another. Great plane, flies similar to a ex300. I had the whole plane, just needed covering, for twenty years till recently. Wings and fuzs just dont like tents, tarps etc stored on top of them. I is a really nice fuz, curves in the right places. |
