Default Busted Plane Award.

this is continueing from this thread:

Mid-Air Collision AND SURVIVED!!!!

the idea is to make a decal to award pilots who survived a mid air and landed safely or airframe failior and landed. this is my idea for the decal.

As I said, I think it iw a great idea.

It should be a confirmed event by other modelers. I like that you have even come up with a decal already. This should be done.

Pit,
Are you saying you've had a recent mid-air and survived? I guess a lot of us have....... It just ain't too pretty after all is said and done! The decal is pretty good looking IMHO. That being said, I'm now cursed with getting into a mid-air probably the next time I fly.

Yes it reminds me of the very day...about a year and a half ago on the maiden flight. I put my first Comp-Arf extra together...It was a 2.6 Shulman scheme extra with DA-100. Take off looks good...I trim the plane out and all is well. About 5 minutes into flight...the back end of the plane starts wagging like a dogs tail. I thought I was seeing things...but really...everything from the turtle deck back was wagging side to side....These things are actually quite flexible. I figured I had lost the plane already, so I was going to try and get it down and minimize the damage. Amazingly enough...I had a pretty decent landing and the plane look ok at first glance...other than the left elevator was in the full down position.

It turns out the I forgot to tighten the servo mounting screws...and the servo arms...One of turnbuckles completely came off (lots of flutter here) and the right elevator servo completely broke out of the mount..the turnbuckle was 2 threads from completely coming off...but it had enough hold to land the plane. The fuse was reglassed on the inside for reinforcement and repainted the fuse from the stabs back...I was lucky...only $250.00 in damages...the plane was back in the air 2 weeks later and is still flying today...(not by me)
