I ordered a 49" QQ Yak at the AMA convention and should be receiving it this week and I'm trying to figure out how I want to power it. I have definitely become a firm believer in making my watts with voltage instead of amps so I'll be going the 4S route. The motor I have is a Torque 2814T/605 which is rated at 40A and 605kv. This motor should give me roughly the same prop speed on 4S as the recommended Hacker A30-14L on 3S will while spinning the same prop that is recommended for the Hacker 3S setup (APC 14x7E). I'm also seriously considering powering this plane with packs made from 2300mAh A123 cells instead of LiPo packs. Now here's the question: This setup will increase the plane's AUW by 5-6 oz (>34g for the motor and >120g for the battery pack) and I'm wondering if this increase will have a significant impact on the plane's aerobatic performance. Keep in mind that I don't fly competetively but I like my planes to perform well. My flight routines are more pattern-biased but I'm also trying to improve my 3D skills. My gut feeling is there will be little noticable difference with a plane this size but I could be wrong. Thanks! Pete |

How about this? I converted mine last week with a .32SX I had sitting around. Ran a pitts muffler and 4 oz tank. Dry weight of 49.6 oz! I see most everybodys electric came in at 52 RTF. I will be at 54 oz RTF. I dont need to run any expensive batteries and can fly all day long!
