So, I'm about ready to take on a kit that my grandpa gave me last week.

It's an older glow model, about 1980's era, and I'm planning on powering it with a brushless system.

So, has anyone else built a kit before, that's in my age range (15), and has successfully flown it? I need all the tips you can give me, if you could, since I'm a newb when it comes to balsa kits.

I just finished my first kit. I built a Mojo, a bad ass profile. I started last year when I was 15. First off building isn't that bad. I had my bench in my room. When I was bored I built. Take your time and enjoy the process. Don't rush to get it into the air or you will end up with a pos. Covering sucked. I hated it. It took for ever to find a scheme and even longer to cut out the patterns. Take your time though. You'll be proud when your plane looks better than all the old guys. What helped me was reading a lot. Read everything you can about building, and covering.

Finally don't be afraid to fly it. My profile has gone through a bunch of minor crashes. It's all worth the 100 hours when your hovering on the deck doing tail touches. You wont be 3ding a 80s bipe but you get the point. Have fun and fly the damn thing.

Just take your time. If the parts don't fit right, don't glue them until they do. Check, double check and check one more time that everything you glue is straight and square. Read the instructions and study the plans. You'll do fine. I built my first kit when I was 11. It flew just fine.

I hope this one goes well. The parts aren't notched, and the plans/instructions have holes in them, probably from bugs or something. This will be an interesting build if it goes well. I'm planning on increasing the controll surfaces, and making the wing ribs symmetrical, so it can do pattern or 3D
