Help! battery identifaction

I picked up a makita 18v (3ah)li-ion pack today from home depot. I was hoping someone can me, are the cells inside A123's? The pack was $79, and before I open it up I want to make sure they are. Otherwise I am going to return it. Thanks, for any input, or knowledge you all will share.

The only power tool company licensed to use A123's is DeWalt (Black & Decker). Makita tools use Sony V or VT cells, depending on the size, which don't have the discharge rating that the A123's have. The difference being the Sony batteries use a cathode made of Nickle-Manganese and the A123's have a cathode made of "Nano Iron Phosphate". On the plus side. the Makita batteries can be charged to 4.2V per cell so you don't need a special charger, any LiPo charger will work.
