Everyone has a weakness.Mine happens to be addiction to Spike Tv on Saturday or Sunday mornings watching Horsepower,Extreme 4x4,Musclecar,Trucks,ect.Growing up towards the very end of the musclecar era,and owning two Chevrolets that smiled at gupling 92 leaded high octane 78 cents a gallon gas, watching these build threads they show keeps me glued in my chair for at least 2 hrs. Having been involved many years ago in RC Planes, and leaving the hobby almost as fast, now I have time to once again, fully commit to fun in the air,and the time elapse has to say the least, left me way behind in now trying to catch up with all the new technoligy that has entered the marketplace in this hobby. Digital,2.4 MHZ,Nicad,Giant,Electric,Heli's,Park Flyers were not in the vocabulary of this hobby when I was involved before. Now I find myself reading everything I can find always trying to play catch-up,and still in the dark on some new technology that is being used now. Sooo,,,my question is,,as popular as this hobby is,with every aspect of RC modeling now, from cars and trucks, boats, sailplanes, and now Giant scale, why hasn't anyone stepped up to the plate, and started a TV Show weekly on this?? I'm sure noone would run out of subject material.I would set aside time to watch a complete build thread,or watch competition meets that could be covered.A half hour episode per week could be packed with actual video of anything from explaining and comparing servoes,to showing how to set up a radio and transmitter. I'm sure politics would be involved,as in who is best qualified to be the host, what equipment would be presented, ect,,but all that aside, isn't it easier for everyone to actually see,or watch how something is done, than to read, and search thru books, and websites? I know for me,getting grease on my hands, and my knuckles scraped on a "hands on" situation always makes the learning curve smoother and faster.Sure, all new products comes with an owners manual, but I have read many posts here on new equipment, where the instructions are not clearly understood. Is there any broadcasts now on television that I am not aware of that already do this?If so,please inform me,I want to subscribe to that channel. Thanks!

There was "Radio Controlled Hobbies" w/ Chris Chianelli on the DIY channel. That ran for a few years. There was also that other R/C show on the Outdoor Channel, but I didn't personally enjoy watching that as much as I did Chris's show on DIY. I agree! There needs to be a good R/C tv show! |

I thought Inside R/C was better than Radio Controlled Hobbies, but they both sucked so there is still plenty room to add a GOOD show. It'd be cool to have a better show to watch, but I doubt it would have high enough ratings to pay for itself just like the last two that flopped. Wishfull thinking, though.

Actually its not hard to do. Go to your local Public Access station and do a 1/2 hr show. They let you do what you want. Then put snippits on youtube. Just so you know that is how Girls Gone Wild started. It used to be a couple of guys filming at nightclubs in Tampa and Miami. My wife and I used to watch it on PA at midnite for a good laugh.......then he's a millionaire. |

We need to figure out how to make RC planes sexy.

If you go to the tlc/discovery channel website, you can submit new ideas for upcoming shows for consideration. There is a form to fill out,and you must already have a production company in place,to start the process. This can all be done on-line,and once submitted, and answer can be expected in 5-8 weeks time on your idea. Possibly we could get Victorias Secret as a sponsor,to add the sexy part to the show? The use of a public access channel would only broadcast locally, correct? With a Giants Fly in close to me this weekend,I'm sure enough footage could be taken for a 20 minute show,,possibly more.

SleepyC. You know anyone that is involved in producing? That would be the first step.

Germany has a nice montly show. On German TV they have a monthly 1/2 hour program on RC airplane models. Click this link: http://www.modellfliegerkanal.de/ Choose your connection speed, then click on THEMEN, put cursor on the black page and it enlarges, then click on Komplette Sendung 14. There are some frickin' awesome jets, including a 220 lb A380 and at the end a guy scratch builds a FW190 and installs a 250cc Seidel 7 cylinder, awesome sound. Some of you may even learn a new language he he.

My friend and I are actually tossing this idea around right now... he's a professional film producer and he is an RC NUT (he owns a hobby shop now). I've also dabbled in professional video editing... we're thinking of shooting a show in HD and pitching it to a few companies. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens... don't get your hopes too high, but it's something to think about. I'm already storyboarding the first episode which will revolve around an electric review ![]()
