Help! Throttle curve?

Can someone tell me what a throttle curve is and what it does for flying?
Will a Futaba 7C do a throttle curve?

Well you can sure try it. Go into the DR/EXP settings and switch it to throttle. Then adjust it a bit and see what happens. It only shows expo for the throttle so I'm not sure what it will do. Normally I use mine to make sure that my engine is at half its full rpm when I'm at half throttle. I run a 9c though so check out your 7c.

I also like to use the throtle curve. I like to make sure I have a smooth throtle transition from idle to full throtle in the rpm range compared to stick movement. I usually have to play with it in the 1/4 to 3/4 range to get a smooth steady rpm increase with stick movement.

A book "Programming the 9C" by Harry Higley shows an excellent way to do a throttle curve and is what I use on my 10X.

Make sure the engine is warmed up. Then record the idle rpm and full-throttle rpm. Subtract the two. Then divide that number by 5 (to get four points between idle and full-throttle). Go into the throttle curve program and with engine running, adjust the four mid-points to match the following using these numbers as an example:

idle - 1400 rpm
full-throttle - 6000 rpm
difference = 4600 rpm
divide 4600 by 5 = 920 rpm

idle equals = 1400
first point past idle is 1400 + 920 = 2320 rpm
second point past idle is 2320 + 920 = 3240
third point past idle is 3240 + 920 = 4160
fourth point past idle is 4160 + 920 = 5080 rpm
and the fifth point past idle is 5080 + 920 = 6000 or full-throttle!

So now you have a totally linear throttle curve that puts the throttle stick positon at half of it's throw and the engine rpm at half of it's available rpm!!

How about that? It does take some getting used to a linear throttle as most of use are used to the full-throttle at slightly more than half stick but I guarantee that it will help your throttle control and make flying the sequences much easier!

Enjoy.
