Looking for a good foamie for our winter indoor season here. I know a little about them but not sure what to choose that would help me REALLY work on my 3Ding skills. This years location is in a medium sized elementary school gym (guessing it's probably 100'x50'x20-30'high). I'll be using my 9cap radio. Don't want to go crazy price wise, but I don't want junk either. Again, something that I can seriously work on my flying skills with, not just a wall basher. I'll even take suggestions on building plans. Thanks guys. Marc |

No ideas, anyone...This may be harder than I thought. Since all the guys in my club fly "Roundabaouts" (you know, they're oval in shape home-made things with no rudder and no ailerons, well elevons I think?) they don't really know much about 3-d capable foamies.

Hi Mark Just getting the bits together for my first indoor foamy, The model itself is a F3P Clik (a precision/3D aircraft). Weight is obviously a big factor in how well these fly, if you get a fat foamy you'll find not only will it fly pretty bad, but no matter how big your hall you'll be running out of space (in downlines e.t.c) ![]() My set-up will be as follows: Clik F3P Turnigy 2204-14T (19g) brushless outrunner Turnigy Plush 10amp Brushless esc (9g) (this can be even smaller depending on battery/prop setups e.t.c) A Flightpower Evo Lite 20c 350mAh 2s (7.4V lipo) Servo will most likey be Blue Arrow 6.4g 1kg micro servos RX will be as light as possible not sure which im gonna get at the moment! ![]() Im will not be competing with mine so im not going for top of the range gear but still the above set-up will be enough for me ![]() If you did want to go for a different setup, you could change the motor with a Hacker A10-15S, JR/Futaba/Hitec servos and so on. Im pretty new to all this myself so im sure the other guys on here will hopefully give there recommendations and maybe even tell me where i could improve mine ![]() Heres a list of links to my set-up: Turnigy motor - http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._19g_Outrunner Turnigy ESC (Electronic speed controller) - http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...eed_Controller Servos - (will need 3 for a clik style plane) - http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...c_Micro_Servo# 2s FlightPower battery - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXRVN9&P=M Clik F3P - http://www.nesail.com/detail.php?productID=5364 Other Indoor planes worth looking at: http://www.fancyfoam.com/ Obviously you don't have to go for a F3P style plane although it seems to be the "in" thing at the moment in indoor 3D flying, there are larger/heavy set-ups about but remember the lighter they are the better they fly! Hope this helps you out a bit mate on your way to getting an indoor setup going, like i said this is what im going with/have been told would be a good setup. Dave. Ahhh, now that's some info I was looking for! I never realized weight was such a factor (makes sense though). I had bought a TT foamie a couple of years ago and the thing seemed better suited to flying outdoors. It was too much for the indoor stuff and it made it very hard to practice on. Just looking at the battery size you guys run is way different then what my old foamy needed (3s 1500mAh). That's a huge weight difference in itself! I'm going to check the gear you suggested this week online, in the meantime I have some stuff on order that should be here today to get my UCD-60 back up in the air and hopefully I can salvage what is left of outdoor flying here in these parts of Canada! I've got some work that I need to finish which should give me some extra cash to get a good foamie setup for this season's indoor flying I didn't want to have to resort to using the sim all winter Buy the way, is it worth goin with a milled set-up, or will it be too "delicate" for a first timer? Thanks a bunch Dave! Marc P.s. xtremeRCpilot thanks as well, short and sweet? lol |

Hi Marc, im going with a non milled Clik, As long as you try and keep it as light as possible there will be no need for just standard non compoteion indoor aeros ![]() And also like you say when there milled they become even more easy to break lol! Hope that helps! Dave |

Well, I bought the Fancy Foam Yak55...My god, it looks flimsy! Oh man this is going to be one interesting season. I guess we will see how good my flying skills really are! I'm used to my TT Gilles 202 foamy. 6mm Depron if I recall. A little more robust. I think she's going to be pretty fun though. I'm sure glad I bought two kits since I have a feeling that I'm for sure going to at least destroy one ![]() Marc |

GREAT CHOICE!!! I have to say that the fancy foam yak55 is the BEST foamy that i've flown. I loved it so much that i've since built 6 of them!(i'm not the easiest on my foamies...;-) what gear are you going to go with? I usually use an e-flite 300 outrunner, JR S185 servos,(the best foamy servos you can buy!) a pheonix 10 esc, a spektrum AR6100 RX, and thunder power 3S 350mah lipos. with that setup, i usually run around 5oz with the battery. Go by the book when you are building. try to use as LITTLE glue as possible. it doesnt seem like it, but an overdose of glue will increase the weight of the plane quite a bit. They do feel quite flimsy before to carbon rods go in, but after the plane is framed up and the carbon is in the correct places, you will see that it is quite rigid. well good luck with it! lets see some pictures!

Screw the winter foamie. Get one of the new mini electric helis and fly it in your bedroom. Yes, you can do that!
