Default help me choose a bird

I saw the post about 3d practicing a few threads back but my question is a little different...

im looking for a new 3d bird to get more stick time and prepare for me getting a big bird next year.. i have a UcanDo 3d so i want to stay w. a fatty bird... .46-.60 sorta like the aero-works.net edge540t... what would be some other good options??

ive been looking at the edge 540t hard i like the size of it..the wing loading seems pretty good as well..but i am open to suggestions

Oh yea... its my first post after lurking for awhile

I would recommed a ShowTime 4D. It's a great plane.....it'll do pattern and 3D like no other. I love it for that reason. I had a Saito 1.00 in mine, will be putting a Webra 1.20 in it soon. It's sitting here, I just have to get it put in.

Chris,

I learned to fly 3D on a Funtana 40. Flys slow and harriers great. Knife edge takes some mixing but it will do it. Rolling harriers are great too. I would have loved for the showtime to be out back when I bought the Funtana though. I might have choosen it. I can tell you I purchased the pacific aero edge 540 .40 size and it would not 3D to well. Rolling circles and knife edge was about it, hovering was way to out of control with it and it would not harrier it did more like a harrier rock or sway then enter death spin. I believe it is similar to the Aeroworks edge .40 size. Just some info for you. Hope it helps. (what field do you fly at in Memphis?)

Yeah that is the prop busters field. I have flown with several of there members. I am the President of the Millington Barnstormers in Millington on sykes rd just off raleigh millington rd. Check out our website. www.mbsrcc.com Come fly with us sometime.

If you want to go ahead and get a larger bird, I have this for sale.

checked out your website..ill have to check out your field..the busters are the only field i dropped in on when i first arrived in memphis...your extra is a nice plane..but i dont have the room yet..seems apartment life makes you buy less planes.. i think a house or bigger apartment is in my future... i have 16 foamies,4planes and all my building stuff..and ill be adding another plane here in the next few weeks!

ive been looking at the funtana s 40.. seems everyone is saying put a saito 100 on it...i believe in more power but that seems like "firewall rippin' fun" ..whats your opinion...

Just nuts.....but I've seen it done. Personally, I feel a Saito .72 would be the perfect match, and it won't effect your overall balance too much. It will still have enough power to pull out of a hover effectively, that's the perfect match. If you start throwing more power and more weight at it, all you doing is decreasing it's flight enveope.

Just my .02

.72 it is... i guess if the power isnt all there i could always change the prop to give it more "pull"

Chris, Don't put a 72 on it. That is what I had on it at first. I don't know if I had a defective engine or what but it would barely pull from hover at full throttle. That was running on 30% heli fuel and 13x4 apc. I switched to a YS 63 which has about the power output of Saito 91. Just the YS is a little tougher to tune. If I had it to do all over again I would put a saito 82 or 91 on it. Its not really made to fly fast so use throttle management.
