Well, a little story. We all love flight or we wouldnt be here on this site. But my story is a little different. I was at the field with the 30% Extra and trying new props. I noticed a KillDee bird on a nest of 4 eggs smack in the middle of the runway, which isnt that wide to begin with. She is nesting her babies. So, I came in on final and was blubbering on fumes... it was CHANCE hitting the bird and her nest, or put the plane down premature. It could have been done with Hyde on the sticks, but.... I am not Chip. I set it down and broke a prop. I was not sad, nor upset because I chose to fly around this. Well, a week later(tonight) I saw one of the babies take flight 4 feet off the ground and it was really neat. All 4 are alive and will be gone soon...

GremlinX has a big heart for Gods little winged creatures! Good job dude, but that prop looks like a good candidate for sturring paint now! What a shame, but I commend your decision!

Good call Gremlin. I am such a sucker for the animals and love to hear stories like this.... not about the prop, but about the birds. There are not as many who would make that choice as there should be, so consider yourself in special company. A pic would be worth a fortune on the site. |

I know the feeling, we get birds nesting in the middle of the runway every season. Ya learn to fly around, and we have a nice long and wide runway to dodge with. I find a pass of idle-full-idle-full throttle at about 10 feet before your landing run works well ![]() Fly-guy

Jim, its a great flying plane, but I feel its a little sluggish with a DA 50, I am thinking its more like 33%? As for the 3D, It could use more elevator I think. Its real Docile with no evil tendencies.. thats what I was flying when this happened. No plane damage though!
