Hey all, I've got a FPE 5.8 that I'm having a bit of a problem with. The engine starts great, runs great, but when thrown into a hard snap or a blender, the engine nearly quits until the snap or spin slows down. No matter if I give it throttle or not before the I enter the manuver, there is no throttle response during it. I have tried a check vlave thinking that possible it's pulling fuel back from the carb, but that didn't help, and I really don't know where else to look from here. Thoughts or idea's anyone? Thanks, Neo |

Sounds like your fuel is being thrown to the front of the tank and the clunk isn't following it. I'd pull the tank and make sure the clunk is moving forward with the fuel. If it's not try a thinner/more flexable line or a heavier clunk. |

It does it with a full or empty tank. I may just go nd buy a new tank and install it. I really don't think that's the problem, but it is possible. Neo |

If you fly a Knife Edge and the engine wants to quit as well, I would guess and say that your mixture (high) is rich. Could you possibly try using a higher idle (use an idle down setting for landing) and see if that helps as well?

Flying knife edge or inverted no problem. Higher idle doesn't help either. As soon as I hit the snap......there is nothing there. High or low idle. Neo |

What airplane is this on? Do you have the velocity stack on? The only other thing I can think of, is during the snap/blender mnauevers, a vacuum is being created and it's causing the problem. Don't know if turning the velocity stack 90 degress (if it's on) or putting the stack on would help. I don't know of anyone using a brass fitting on the carb with a line to the fuse with this engine either. Wish I was more help. Dan |

Thats what mine did too until i richened the low end. I have had 4 dead sticks happening from flat spins and knife Edge spins. Neo.... Look on FPE site and look at the Owners manual, I believe I saw some trouble shooting help that explains your problem and what might be wrong. Let me know if this helps. Jamie |
