thats Baron Johnsons...secret weapon. I have heard from some reports at the Nats that this airplane likes to be flown fast, kind of inhibiting it a bit for IMAC.

yeah, hes kept that one under his hat for quite sometime. I also got word that they are taking the top 13 pilots from Unlimited and allowing them to progress to the finals. I am waiting for my nightly update to see who those 13 are...since AMA likes to report on day old news!

Yep - that is Baron's. I was at the Nats judging for two days. The reports are turned in each night by Brad Jorgenson. He is pulling some long hours - all day in the Judges chair, a quick bite, and then off to write the report. The AMA reviews it in the morning and posts it to the web site by afternoon. The Shark is pretty cool. Looks good in the air and is flying a little faster than other planes. Baron is doing a good job with it. I talked with him about the details. One of the neat things is that it does not require any right trust or right rudder under full power. With the fin on the bottom, it eliminates the P-Factor. The rudder is a full flying airfoil. It is high drag when in line and reduces drag when fully deflected (Special airfoil Baron worked on). It does not slow down during snaps like other planes. Also, with the bottom rudder, it can enter a negative spin with a flatter entry (bottom rudder stays in the prop wash). The bottom rudder has a servo which folds part of it up for takeoff and landing. I am sure there will be plenty of pictures coming. Keith Sessions |

Xtra330 - Thanks for the report. If the flying on Thursday was anything like the first two days, it was incredible. Have you ever been to an IMAC event and watched the top guy in Unlimited just dominate the class and fly darn near perfect? Well, at this years Nats, the top 11 are doing just that!!!! Steve and Lyndell are flying very well and Kyle would easily be in the top 10, except for some mechanical problems (deadstick during unknown and known on Wednesday). Max - glad you enjoyed the NC! Wish I was still at the Nats, but I had to work. I had to take my laptop (with aircard) so there is not a way to get a report out of the Jorgensons early - sorry. |
