100:1 only sounds right with the RIGHT OIL!

Most oils are designed to run 40:1 or 50:1..
there are a select few that you can run 100:1.

Make sure you read the oil recommendations!! And your motor recommendations!

I'm sure if you email or call Brison, they can recommend a good oil and a good ratio for that motor!

If you want to be a smart alec about it 100:1 actually equals an oil percentage of 0.990099.

And 50:1 actually equals 1.9607 % oil.
1% per volume would be a ratio of 99:1 and 2% would be 49:1.

Sorry to be such a geek I am sitting at work with nothing better to do.

I knew that someone would bring that up.......

but 100:1 is a ratio not a percentage correct? you have 100 times the volume of gas versus the volume of oil......

That is why 4:1 methanol/castor works out at 20% oil content. For every 4 litres of methanol you add 1 litre of castor giving a total of 5 litres. As there is 1 litre of oil in the total volume of 5 litres 1 divided by 5 equal 0.2 or 20 percent.

The back of my Motorexx oil bottle clearly says that to acheive a mix of 100:1 add 100mls of oil to 10 litres of fuel, giving a total of 10.1 litres of fuel.........

Anyway like I said above sorry to be a geek!!!!

right.....I wasn't limiting the total volume to 100 ounces though... I was making 101 ounces of mix. Its not that much difference and I'm glad that if I have been messing this up that I errored on the side of a richer mixture...

for every gallon of gas I put in about 1.3 ounces of oil (1.28 ounces is 1% of a gallon) I figure that its close enough. If I wanted to mix a total of exactly 1 gallon I would use the numbers that you posted...

sorry for being an idiot!

I was being pedantic mate. At 100:1 or 50:1 its close enough to 1% and 2% that I wouldnt worry at all.

Zak, start out with Air Cooled for a couple gallons (3-4) at 32:1 then switch to belray.

You said you bought this thing used right?

1 Gallon = 128 fluid ounces
so 4 ounces of oil in 128 fluid ounces is 32 to 1.

There for a 2.5 gallon can would take 10 ounces of oil to reach 32 to 1.
6.4 ounces of oil would give you 50 to 1 with 2.5 gallons of gas.

Whats wrong with the metric system?? Isnt that what youngsters are learning these days??

Buy a metric measure, buy a 5 litre fuel can and put 100mls in 5 litres you will have 50:1 then.
