Don't know if this is the place to post this but after looking through all the topics for 20min's (Too many choices on this board?) I'll give it a shot. New to gas planes and have bought a DA-50R and will be ordering a AM 30% Yak . My question is whats the best Radio set up? I run JR and have a 950S Reciever. I'm looking for something light and reliable. I was thinking 8611's all around except throttle but would consider the Hitech's. More interested in quality and reliability than budget. Not up on all the new battery tech but want to keep it simple. I got a foamy with Lipo's and using a Triton to charge but think it's a pia. Thanks, Rick |

I would go with the 8611's, I run JR, Futaba, and Hitech servos so im not just saying go JR! The service is great and i have never had a problem with any of my servos. For batteries and regulators I would go with the Fromeco package ( IMAC Package, for 35% planes with minimal servos, (6-7 servos) $161 ) ( www.Fromeco.org ) If you have any other questions just ask |

I would like to say go with the Hitec Titanium geared servos, but their power is way overkill for the plane. But if you want servo's that don't develop slop over time, they are your best choice. Beyond that, Go with a dual battery setup, lith or NIMH, which ever you are more comfortable using, and I would highly recommend failsafe switches. If they do fail they do so in a on state. Now I'm gonna contradict myself a bit here with what I have to say next. Use the kiss principal. Keep It Simple Stupid. The more complex your setup, the more points of failure you have. In the end, make it as safe as you can, and just fly the heck outta the thing. Neo Out!!!! |

I have the AM 30% YAK with a ZDZ 50. I use JR radio with HiTec servos. 5945's except for rudder which is 5955TG, and throttle which is 625MG. Fromeco power with 2400 maH on ignition and 4800 maH on receiver. I've been able to fly up to 16 flights on a single charge. Plus the 4800 is really good to move for changing the CG to get the plane balanced exactly where you want it. Simple setup and it works pretty well.

I'd say. Fromeco Batteries. Hitec 5945 everuwhere but the rudder Hitec 5955 on the Rudder. Some low end cheap digital for the throttle / Maunual Choke. You got a DA-50 so thats good. If you haven't ordered the yak yet, listen to thhis. I'm not trying to sway your decision, I know the AM 30% Yak is a GREAT Plane, that being said, I would look at the BME Edge V2 it seems like an awosme 30%'r check out all your options is all I'm saying -Taylor- My Wild Hare

Thanks for all the replies, I like it when everyone gives their honest opinion. I usually just buy stuff and then find out later what works and what doesn't or whats better etc so thanks for all the advice. A few more Q's. 1. J-To-Low Where did that pic come from? 2. Sounds like everyone likes Fromeco's so I'll use those. Do you run reg's on both ign and reciever? Does the Imac pkg mentioned show up on the website or do you need to ask for it? Does it incl switches? What are you charging with? 3. As far as safety is concerned how do those failsafe switches work ? I read somewhere about a ign kill setup but not familiar with any of this safety stuff so any advice would be great. 4. Taylor, nice looking plane. I have already ordered but thanks for the advice. How long have you had it? Hold up well? 5. Exhaust. Whats the rule of thumb with exhaust? I like the looks of the pitts or can but what effect do they have on the mtr? do these exhausts (tuned pipe incl) narrow the power band? More or less power? Thanks, Rick |

1. Who knows...knowing JTL, it's probably illegal...LOL! 2. Yes, regs on both; no, doesn't include switches; I use my Triton to charge. 3. They work on the principle of failing in the best position...that is, if the vibration ends up causing a failure, it will fail in the "ON" position...thereby saving your plane. Switches do fail, so don't go cheap on the switches either. I use MPI switches, and back all mounts with a piece of lite ply. Haven't had any problems so far. 4. Cajun's plane is probably stolen...just kidding...but after what some of his buddies have said about his flying...that plane has held together extrordianarily...LOL! (Just in case he reads this: you know I'm kidding Cajun, after all, how do you think I got my designation as the manager of the rekit dept?) 5. A mini pipe (tuned) can increase power and provide a better mid range. The only two drawbacks would be the install and the cost. I do not have a mini pipe, just the pitts muffler on mine. Hope this helps. | |||||||||||||||

Here is a slick piece of equipment that is nice if your using dual reciever packs. Dual adjustable regs, independant of each other, but both run off a single failsafe switch. Also has dual outputs. Now I must say that I haven't used these yet. Yet being the key word. I'm planning on using their turbo reg in my 46% Giles which is being finished up. Just a thought if you plan on running dual reciever packs. http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/Regulator/3.htm Neo Out!!! |
