Here is a challenge to the members. Find the best place in the world to fly RC planes. For this one let's make it outside only. Here are some criteria for scoring. Score one point for every month of the year that is good for flying - this means average temperture above 40 F and winds 10 mph or less. Score one point for every flying field/club that is in the area - 45 minute drive radius. Score one point for each RC hobby shop in the area - 45 minute drive radius. Score three points for every national event, two points for every regional event, and one point for every local event each year. For example here in Boise: We can fly consistently for at least 7 months of the year = 7 We have 3 clubs and 2 fields = 5 We have 4 hobby shops = 4 We have no national events, 2 regional events, about 12 local events = 14 TOTAL SCORE = 30 What's your score? Yes, we can add other criteria.

| I would have to say the Canadian Rockies in Alberta would be an absolute kick ass place to fly. Just because of the mountains. It not very windy, unless you get up around the peaks but I guess you are at like 8000' so it doesn’t score but like a 1. You can’t beat that scenery! If you have been there you know what I mean, wonder if there are any giants in Alberta? You cant beat that scenery! |

OK. I'm much like Adrian. Fly 12 months of the year = 12 Winds over 10K maybe twice or three times a year. Nearest hobby shop ( My workshop is well stocked but 1000 miles away for a real one) Local clubs = 1 Comps = 0 Flying buddies, us three have a ball. Guess you can t have it all, but the limitless flying days. Absolutely no trees, dead stick almost anywhere you like. There are a few rocks and yes they are plane magnets. Kiwi |

My old club at Mildura Australia was awesome! FLying 12 months a year, you could fly till 8pm or later in summer cause of the long days. The middle of the day got too hot though. Wind was only really a problem in August and almost always died down in the afternoons. It hardly ever rains here either! Heres a picture from goodle earth.
