If things go the way I want (ok hope they will) I intend to take a trip in the next couple of weeks that will take me from Birmingham, Al north to York,Pa and then cut west to Billings, Mt. Back south towards Texas ( unknown destiantion in Tx) back over to Fayettville, Ar then maybe back home. Told my wife we will take our own time and enjoy the trip ( but I know I will need a fix from time to time)

HEY... there was a post a while back where a guy has put together an entire database of flying fields all over the US. If I get a second, I'll try and find a link... or come on guys anyone have a link? I know its been a project for this guy for a few years and it was very detailed. Good luck on your trip!!

50% the only way I know to get to PA. is up 81 thru the Shenadoa Valley. Made that trip so many times I think my truck could have made it by itself. Love to come thru the Valley when it had just snowed because it is such a beautiful place. Thanks for the link to the fields, I will print these out and hand my wife a map to navaigte around. Been wanting to do this for the last three yr. In 2000 I was in Carlie Pa for the weekend, found a wonderful gentleman that owned a hobbyshop at his home with his own runway. Needless to say guess where I spent the weekend. Wish I could remember his name but he really made me feel at home. |

If you are in the Little Rock, AR area. I can hook you up to one of the best fields in the area.

Hi Guys - The RC Database is my little project. If you download the excel file from my little MSN website (acutally you'll have to download several - broke out by AMA Dist). The neat thing is they upload directly into programs such as MSN Streets and Trips - I've used it many times and planned many round trips via RC fields along the way I was transferred out to Ohio in 1999, and finally got back to Wyoming in 2005. We drove back home twice per year for all 5+ years we were back there. Met a great bunch of RC guys back East and went to a lot of fly ins (my original RC Club - Flying Circuits in Findlay OH). I was always using my coordinates to find that special place to stretch my legs (however not always the wifes) All of the coordinates I have accumulated are the actual location of the Clubs Runway, and NOT the location of club contact. If you use the link SleepyC provided it will take you to my original thread, thanks SleepyC. To date I think I have a total of around 1000 clubs located in the lower 48.I also have the same database saved to be used in Magellan GPS's. I have two files of just under 500 waypoints each (Magellan limit). If you have a Magellan let me know and I'll e-mail them to you if you'd like. Beats trying to remember where they were located after looking at the file, but not as good as running a laptop hooked up to your GPS. I also have a Google Earth file if that would help, just doesn't have the detail of the Clubs as the Excel file does. I happen to live in Gillette WY, and was just up in Billings Mt this weekend after my Dad had a very successful quad by-pass If your bringing I-90 across, we have several great fields in the area starting with two in the Rapid City SD area, one East and one West of town, one in Spearfish SD, ours here in Gillette WY(let me know when you'll be through, have a great 500+Ft asphalt runway I'd be more then willing to get you some flying time in on ). Next, on the way up to Billings is my brother's Club's field in Sheridan WY - The Flying Cowboys. Has a beautiful back drop of the Big Horn Mountains. Next is Billings MT, and they also have a great bunch of guys to fly with!! Hope this wets your appetite to come on West, see some of the Rockies, and our big open skies

Thanks for all the input, I am a retired- put out to pasture truck driver, and I have been all over but rarely had time to go and visit fields. I did get to spend a great weekend in Carile, Pa. flying all weekend. My wife and I are planning on taking about a month or so to just travel to places that mean a lot to us. I lived just east of Billings back in the late 60's and early 70's. Will make sure wife has the data loaded into the laptop and tell her to look for the GPS software too. Now either I will have to decide which planes to bring along or try to make my wife feel sorry for me and buy a new one on the trip |

So Walkers210 - have you been on your trip and who and what did you see? Hope it has been fun and exciting. Haven't seen or heard from you out in Wyoming yet, but if your still in the area, look us up. To much longer though and you might want to bring skis for your planes Yep, it's getting that close to snow for us out here, have already seen our first sticking snow up in the mountains a couple of weeks ago.

| As much as I wanted to make the trip, and due to my wife's health we have had to postpone trip. Also last week I had what amounted to a light heart attack so it might have been best that I didn't get to go. Still have everything lined up and hoping that when everything gets back in line can get around to all the places. |
