Help! aviation models TOC 35% Yak-54 tooo hot

O.K. I finally got mine into the air today and it flew and landed great. I can't say enough about that, but I have a problem. I have a DA 100 and I only flew for just a few minutes and landed and the engine was HOT, I did not have a temp gun, but I bet if I would have spit on it, it would have sizzled. I have the square cut out of the bottom for ventilation and no baffles. I understand I need more air moving over the cylinders but what should I do? I talked to one person and they said I could cut slits in the cowl where the vents are molded into it, I kinda like that idea, but will it give me the results I want? Should I try to baffle it and try to direct the air out of the square in the bottom. Any help would be great, if anyone has any pics that would be really nice.

There are a lot of Aviation Models 35% yaks in our area now with the 3w 106's. I have not heard of any overheating problems with any of them. How is your engine tuned? Is it brand new? My buddy and I cut little 1" dia hole all around the outside of the square box "actually in the cowl part" to allow for more air and it seems to work fine. If you want to try something, take two pieces of 1/16" balsa sheeting and block the entire intake of the cowl all the way down to the top of the cyl on the bottom and the top. This will cut down on the sq. inches of air that is allowed into the cowl and also force the air to travel through the smaller hole and over your engine.

I bought the engine used, but the guy I got it from had just had a bunch of it rebuilt, so I am breaking it in again. The only cuts I have in the cowl are for the muffler exhausts and the big square.

Like Garrett mentioned, more airflow is needed, the rectangular section sticking out the bottom of the cowl needs to be opened up for more airflow

Here is a torque roll pic. I croped it so you can see the cutouts. As you can see the square box and the back of it are open. Next to the box you can see the 1" holes cut in the cowl. This plane is torque rolled and vertical climbed the entire flight.
