Help! On Board Electric Start - ZDZ 80

Gentlemen

I have a dream of walking up to my Extra (which I use as an aero-tow tug), turning on all of the switches, plugging in a battery, placing my legs on either side of the fuselage in front of the stab, pushing a button and having the engine start.

Any ideas as to how I should go about installing an on board electric start system on my ZDZ 80 so that I can realize my dream?

Gudmund

Yes you can realize your dream, I had one made for a ZDZ 210 and they will make any of them for any engines

Let me know if I can help, but remember, not cheap

Whats the bling bling factor worth Sleepy.

If the guys is using his extra for a glider tug then I would say without doubt he aint looking to do worm burning rollers on the deck with it.

Would be a nice toy in that case I think.

Ya about being nice, I had the starter on my Edge and with the proper batteries onboard , I even had disc brakes I developped for this airplane.

I am sure that with a little ingenuity you could adapt one for a G62 to work with the ZDZ. I have seen a video of a P-51 with an onboard starter. The plane had two taps on the underside and the person would attach one of the self contained jumper packs to it and then flip a switch on the transmitter. He did not have to have the weight of a battery on board, but you could go either way, depending on how much weight you are willing to add.
