Default LETS SEE YOUR CARBON FIBER

OK. I'm real new in carbon fiber so this is not perfect. I can't take the credit, because my dad is the one who did most of the work but i did a little We got some carbon cloth at a boat store and did 4 layers... each 45 degree different of the other. Put some epoxy and 100lbs+ on top and let dry. This is our 2nd attempt and our first wasn't as bad as i thought it would be We made a 15" by 15" square of this stuff and now we can just cut out what we want like the attached pic. Its gonna be a holder for a power expander and regulator thats going in my 35% 260. Not bad for a 2nd attempt of HOME MADE carbon fiber ...I'm gonna drill some lighting holes in it later. Lets see some other carbon projects

Email me at gandalf_stormcrow_1313@yahoo.com if you want some pointers with composites...
The tray you built was a lot of extra work and not well optimized... sorry to sound like a turd... but if you really want to exploit composites and carbon for maximum strength and stiffness at minimum weight, you oughta be armed with a few concepts....

But to "Bottom Line" it.... Solid carbon plate/panel is not much better then just using aluminum... BUT!!!! Put down one little ply of carbon, and .125" balsa, and another layer of carbon... THAT is what makes composites bad ass... Also.... in any structure... you want to have as may continuous fibres thru the structure as possible... your tray has no fibres running all the way from corner to corner... it has a big square hole in the middle!!!..
It is probly strong enuff for a power box... but too heavy...
Carbon conducts electricity as well.... this is bad if a wire gets chaffed on a sharp edge...
Practically speaking... "S" Fiber glass is a better choice.... doesn't have the "Bling-Bling" of carbon... but a successful design is the BEST arrangements of compromises....
Also... West systems really tests out crappy compared to other epoxies... very soft... bad compression strength.... just readily available.... do a little studying... lots to learn... I think RCU and/or RCG have whole sections devoted to composites....
