Default 3w75 side mount carb vs. rear inducted carb

Does anyone know the advantages or disadvantages of the 3w 75cc with these 2 different carb setups? I was thinking of one of the side mounted carb engines on my w/h giles and was wondering if it would be a good combo. Most setups I see have the carb going behind the motor box through a dremeled out hole. Can the motors with the side mounted carbs be mounted inverted? Thanks for the help

All of the big singles are designed to be mounted inverted. The 3w 75 side carb version is a great motor, and so is the 75i rear carb version. The rear carb versions make a tad more power. However, it is worth the extra bit of money to get the new 3W 80 instead, it replaced the 75s. The 75s are great little motors, the new 80 just took it a bit further. Another one to consider is the zdz super 80, its supposed to be awesome as well.

If your budget is tight, the FPE 5.8 is a great motor for the money.
The HP rating on the FPE site is modest... I am putting one in my 35% PANZL and it will rock.
The weight of 95 OZ includes the muffler so its actually .5 lbs lighter than a DA 100 with stock mufflers.

Don't get me wrong... the 3W and ZDZ 80's and the Da100 are superior motors, but for $300 and $600 cheaper respectably, the FPE is a stump puller.
Just an option.

I think that the FPE is a little to heavy for my plane. That motor is 6lbs by my calculations. my plane only has a 93" wing span. I think the zdz and the 3w are both under 5lbs. I could be wrong though...

Its not Too BAD.
I also own a ZDZ 80 RV in a WH 260... and its a GREAT motor.
BUT... its not that much lighter than the FPE.
FPE 5.8 WITH muffler is 95 oz = 5.9 lbs
ZDZ 80 RV with Pitts muffler = 84.7 oz or 5.29 lbs.

that .5 lbs can be washed out by battery placement.

I own 2 ZDZ motors, 1 3W motor , 1 DA motor, and my FPE, and I really think people don't realize the potential of the FPE motors.
They are NOT that heavy... in fact the 95cc 5.8 comes in at .5 lbs lighter than a DA 100 with Mufflers, and is .5 lbs heavier than the ZDZ 80 with a muffler.

I mean, if the funds are there, grab the 3W or ZDZ, but if your on a budget DO NOT FEAR THE FPE.... great engines....

I have a 75 US (Side carb) on my 31% CA Models Extra 300 L (22 Pounds) and it pulls it like crazy a real monster, at half throttle, just started breaking it in.......

Got it off RCUNIVERSE used....... just my two cents..
