This IS one sweet airplane. I huge improvment (hence Goulian getting one and out of the 232) over the original Exrtra 300-S.
Extra put this plane on a diet. Lost all of the frilly stuff like electric adjustable rudder peddels. Lots of carbon fiber usd in place of heavy aluminum. The molded fuse sides and turtle dck are feather lite! Almost like the same as a Comp-ARF fuse. The new cowles at Extra are vey nice as well. Much sleeker looking. The big change is the tail. If you look, it's much, much thinner than the other Extras. It was based on the CAP tail due to the great tummbling ability of the CAP's. The frame is a basic 300-S frame however. The wing is also the same, so roll rate is no better than the other 300's and 300-L's. They need to improve that, but hear that things are in the works already. His engine dyno'ed out at 354 hp, (mine at 357!! HA HA!! ) THe thing is a rocket ship. Just keeps going and going. Will do better at RedBull than the CAP and regular 300-S, but still don't look for it in the winners circle anytime soon. The Edge is still king there.
Sorry to drone on, but thought some of you might enjoy some of the skinny.

Mr. Chapman, why is the Edge so strong against this new stuff? Very good looking plane though, love the new cowl.

We have a bunch of pictures of Mike Goulian's new plane from the Red Bull Air Race in Berlin on our website at www.acrodesigns.com.

The Edge's are still lighter, faster and have a higher roll rate then Mike's new Extra. Just inherent to the fundamental designs of both airplanes. The new Extra Mike has is very nice and should pick up more speed as the engine gets broken in and Mike gets more comfortable in the plane and experience in racing over the courses.

The upcoming races should get very interesting with the British pilots Paul Bonhomme and Steve Jones both flying Edges now. Paul Bonhomme now owns Mike Mangold's Dragon Edge. Mike Mangold flew his brand new Edge for the first time in Istanbul. Paul Bonhomme took a second place finish in Istanbul with his Edge. Steve Jones has purchased Kirby Chambliss' yellow Edge and should be flying it in Budapest. Both Paul and Steve will be in the mix now with their new rides.

Along with Mike Mangold's new Edge, both Kirby Chambliss and Peter Besenyei will be flying brand new Edges, hopefully in the San Francisco race.

It will be fun to watch how the rest of the season unfolds.

Regards,

Anna Wood

The Extra 300 series are still low wing aircraft, Gremlin. Only the original 300 2-seater was a midwing.
