Default Damn I broke a servo!!

Hey guys today I was flying my yak 54 from qq the 50cc one and I entered to a rolling loop when a servo cracked now it is not working it was the aileron servo, so I had to land really fast, I was kinda scared, the servos that I have on ailerons are hitec hs 645 mg I think I might go for some better jr servos, have you ever had these problem with a plane?

On my 30% yak, i put hitec karbonite gears on the ailerons and on the first 2minutes of the flight they got stripped. (i knew karbonite gears arent good for giant scale, but i used them anyways.) So one of the servos broke the gear off w/ the arm, and so i had to land with one aileron while the other aileron was flopping around! I got it down safely.

The Hitec 645MG is usually a pretty bullet proof servo. How old was it? Approx # of flight? Involved in any hard knocks? It's also possible that you got a bad one. There is always a human link in assembly somewhere.......and that opens the possibility for failures. I would say try another.....chances are you won't have any problems with them.

FYI....I've been flying the 5645 in my 33% Yak......I believe it is the same geartrain as the 645MG....just digital controls. They have held up good so far. Also have mnay other Hitec's in all my planes......and have never had a problem that wasn't induced by the user "Me". That being wrecks....a control surface that took a hard wack, or a multitude of other things.

WOW If you truly had enough experience to say that "them hitecs were no good news" you would already know that the 645 was MG.

It's easy, just duct tape the servo together and you'll never have that trouble again.

In all reality though, all servo mfg's have a bad servo come through here and there. It's not until there are many many reported failures that I would sign off on not using a mfg. I personally won't use anything but Hitec.....but that's mostly becasue I hate having to use a matchbox to match up servo's. It's much easier to program them.

Yeah guys you are right, the servo was old I think, it has like 10 months working, so I should happend, may be with some others, any way I mught change them for something better and let those ones for smaller planes.

Hitec has the best customer support as far as repairs (imo). I send in a servo to be checked out and they fixed it, and send it back for free in 1 week. Also Hitec servos are really good (imo). I like JR 8611 servos, but after trying the Hitec 5955 servos, I think i will go with the hitec's on my next giant scale. There gears are much stronger than 8611 servos. They last longer than 100 flights too.
