Talking Oklahoma Granddad

Hi,
I'm from Muskogee, Oklahoma, about 50 miles Southeast of Tulsa; I started in rc planes around the mid seventies for my daughter and son, stayed in it until 1983, when they both got old enough to find other hobbies, so I got out. Now 23 years later, I have a 13 year old Grandson and I'm back in it so he can fly.

In 1983 a 60" to 70" was huge, quarter scale was new in Muskogee and it was still hard to find kits and engines and now I'm flying a 73" WS Edge 540 and have an Aeroworks 35% Edge 540T (105" WS) with a DA100, that's almost ready to fly and I'm working on a Giant Scale Planes 35% Edge 540 (103" WS), that has a damaged cowl and canopy to replace before it flys! I'm still very new to the giants, but I love the big ones, the bigger they are the better they are!

One observation is .........my how things have changed; RC planes, radios and all the equipment are so much much better since the Eighties that I hardly recognize it. Everything is bigger, better and not quite as expensive as before. It's the best hobby I can imagine........and the best way for a Grandfather and Grandson to spend quality time together!

I'm a okie from Muskogee!!

Howdy! Seems to be a popular place for the okies to hang out . . . I'm glad you are back into the hobby to help out your grandson. I pretty much learned to fly RC in Stillwater and Tulsa while I was attending OSU over the past 6 years! Some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet out there in OK. Enjoy the site, learn a lot, and chip in when you can!

You've found the best RC site on the web and a wealth of knowledge. I have been flying Giant scale for over 15yrs south of ADA, OK. I'm currently flying a 30% Yak for 3D and a 34% Extra for IMAC. Welcome fellow Okie

Thanks to all for your greetings and comments. I'm almost embarrased to tell you that I have yet to take advantage of all the great things available on Flying Giants, but I intend to start tonight. Since Oklahoma is in the midst of a long string of 100 + days, the computer is probably the best place to be, at least until it cools down some.

Thanks again!

Phil
