Default I am LOST with this Sukhoi

Well as you probably already know just last week we took the gt80 off and put a 3w106 (really a 100 but was boost up to a 106) anyway we took it out to the field today to try it. The motor crank up and ran really good. I was about to tell my granddad to let go and let me try to fly it then i said let me range check it. I get out about 30 feet with the antenna all the way down and the ailerons were not acting right and the elevator wasnt acting right. The throttle work perfect and so did the rudder. We have a nmh battery for the ignition with a pcm rx
1st We took the switch and battery and moved it all around. The ignition battery was about 3 inches away fromt he rx but was also 1 inch higher than the rx. The switch was right beside the battery on the side of the airframe. We disconnected both and moved it up to the front of the plane right next to the gas tank. The RX is back almost in line with the canopy back. When we moved the switched and battery to the front it still did the same thing.
2nd We took the antenna wire which was going through the battery and placed it going out the top of the body. It helped. But for some odd reason. at high throttle it would do it and low it didnt.
3rd. We notice one spark plug was loose so we tighten it to see if that was it. Still doing the same thing.
4th Finally. We have a NICAD batteries for the rx we hook one of the nicads to the ignition and it worked fine but at certain throttle positions it would act up a little.
I am range checking the plane only about 30 feet away with the antenna all the way down.
The best way the system worked was when we switched the batteries. Is there ANYthing you can think of what we can might do.

How far is the ignition module from the RX, RX battery, and any servo?

The Rx and ignition is way over a foot away. Now the throttle servo is down on the side of the motor box and the ignition is on top of the motor box.

Sounds to me like you have a metal/metal issue. What receiver/transmitter you using?

Futabe 9C Radio and a Futabe PCM Reciever. Tomorrow I am going to check to see if I have any metal to metal. It might be the choke. My granddad made a rod for the choke but not sure what clevis he used. I forgot about that. thanks for the advice.

you said this is a used engine right? Try replacing the spark plugs! I had a similar issue with a 3W100...tried everything to fix the radio issues. When I was finally ready to just junk it all, one of the old-timers at my field suggested new plugs. Swapped plugs and the problem went away! Never had a problem after that.

Plugs are cheap and an easy test.

One side the spark plug was actually loose and when we tighten it help just a little. Good idea. We have a set in the barn. We are going to move the switch and battery as far up as we can and also make the antenna go out of the top of the body and hook to the vert stab.

What is your throttle pushrod made off, mine is goldn rod with metal ends,, you can just use metal just as long as there is a break in it some where, (you might already know this, but just throwing out some stuff that could help)

is there any way you can post a pic of the fuse interior? Also i would do a range check with the engine off to see just how much range you are losing with the engine on. A pic would answer lots of questions I have and I would be able to come back with some good options.

tell the guy on your frequency to turn his radio off.

Hahahaha just kidding.

Check the braided covering on the spark plug wires.

I get a lot more range with the engine off. I will try to get a pic up soon.

Hey Sukhoi
How far away do you get before you get hit? It should be about 90 ft or 30 paces for a good test.
Things to looks for/Try:
-- Is the Receiver wrapped in foam. Receivers are very sensitive to vibration. It should almost be floating in the foam.
-- Personally I would put a PPM (FM) receiver in there while trouble-shooting this problem. PPM gives instant feedback.
-- Unplug all servos (except for the throttle which you said was working OK) and then plug them back in one at a time until the problem comes back. A friend of mine had a bad connector on a rudder servo that caused glitches throughout the system.
-- Definitely look for loose metal to metal.
Hope this helps.
Jim
