Help! Best prop for 3W-150

So far thanks to my friends here at Flying Giants. I am moving in positive direction. Got my questions answered about my duralites, Bought a power box, And now for another question. I have used a piece of lumber for breaking in my 3w-150. I used a 30/12 3w prop. I Can't stand 3w props. I have had great luck with menz but there are so many new ones out there like vess and so on. I like to hang it on the prop, harriers and such so I need a prop with some gettyup. But it also needs to be quite since i Have 40% Carden Cap not equiped for canisters. Let it fly guys and if someone has a list of props I will start a poll. I fully trust you guys and your opinions.

Is that your cap in your avitar? Just curious, because I have Mike's other one just like it.

If you want quiet, you might want to get a 28.5 x 12 3 blade Mejzlik.

Yes Sir it is mine. This plane was purchased by a friend of mine Ivan Gutierrez in Florida. He purchased it from A doctor or Lawyer who claimed it was built by AJ Lee and it had not been flown at the time. I got it shortly after Ivan sold it to one of my best friends Jim Julian. Carden snapped that picture at noll 2005 and I love it. All questions apply to this plane because it means alot to me. My 150 has had a 30X12 break in prop which was given to me but I wan't the best prop for it now. I have heard menz,Vess I don't know which way to go. I would love to go 3 blade if I can find a great deal. Thanks for asking.

The funny thing is, I don't know if that was Mike McConivilles plane originally or just a replica, but I have the sister plane if it is. PM me your e-mail, and I'll e-mail you some pics. I know there are some on a thread here, but I don't remember where.

the best props I used on my 3w 150s were the 3w 31.5x14x8 Carbon 3D prop and fuchs 32x12. Both of them can get loud though. Its hard to find a great 3d prop and quiet on the 3w 150, it rips about anything you put on the front. You might try a Vess 32D as well, that may work very well too. The Mejzlik 28.5x12 3 blade works well for imac and 3d too, as long as your plane is a heavy pig.

Hey invert. You need to plan on getting up to our fly in Sept 23rd. Robert Vess would be glad to let you "Fly Before you Buy" one of his Vess props. Great way to test before handing over the $ Many sizes of his props will be among the great raffle prizes we have as well. Thats a really sharp Cap ya have there, and we'd love to see it on our flight line.
Heres the link: RDRC's Fly-for-Tots - It's huge with major players!

I always run canisters, and am very noise conscious. The props I've used in competition reflect this. Here's a list of props I've used in IMAC:

Fuchs 33-12 2-blade (Pulled very well, 5400 rpm on the ground, 92-93 dB, no rip)
Biela 30-12 THREE Blade (Good prop, pulled well, extremely quiet at 90-91dB)
Mejzlik 32-10 2-blade(STOOPID thrust, rips at will, 96-97dB. . barely)
AM 30-12 3-blade (disappointing. . spun well, did not pull or brake worth anything)
AM 31.5-11 2-blade. . (SILLY prop. . loudest I've ever run, hardest pulling too)

In a pinch I'd suggest the 29-12 Biela 3-blade. . GREAT 3-blade prop.

Hope this helps.

Any 3 blade you choose will be quieter than a typical 2 blade. Try a Mejzlik 30x12, if you want to have KRAZY thrust!!! It will spool up quick, and not be too loud. Have several friends that run the Mej. 30x12. Or try a PT Models prop. 32x10. I run a 27x10 on my 106(6450 RPM), and doesn't rip!!!! It will barely start to rip on the figure N in the IMAC Unl. sequence. Really good prop for the $$$$ Prop is Carbon. Stiff, and weighs less than the Mej. Troy Built Models carries them!!! I'm a believer in the PT Models props!! Thanks for the tip on those props, Razr!!!!

It's VERY quiet, and pulls as well as any other 3-blade out there. no 3-blade will match a 2-blade, though, but the Biela was good enough to yank around a 41% Extra 300 mid-wing that weighed 44 lbs, and never once complained in the vertical lines. It also rpms better than the 30-12 3-blade, which keeps your engine happier.
