Default low rpm idle

I was out flying today with my 42% Radiocraft - it comes in fairly fast unless you really throttle back and get an established sink rate
the cause is partly due to the 30x14" prop and the massive wing area.
Anyway I tried some very low throttle settings -bordering on killing the engine and after landing on the third flight - I taxied back by advancing the throttle and then dropped the stick back to the trim setting - the 160 just ticked over and I watched for a bit then got out the plug in tach and plugged it into the ignition switch - 820-830 rpm
That is the lowest reliable idle I ever had with the engine .
OK first liar has no chance -I know - anybody else care to perjure themselves?
I clipped the wings on this thing 4" per side - still a floater but vertical up line snaps were really improved

Default Re: low rpm idle

Dick,

I will also throw it out on the line. I've been running my new ZDZ 80 RV-J. On some of the initial runs while playing around.....I also observed very very low idle RPM and have it still being reliable. I believe mine was down in the 900 RPM range......and still responsive. I was impressed to say the least. I just wish a idle RPM could be dead nuts reliable that low.
