Hello, I flew my QQ 85 Yak for the first time this morning and after one sucessful flight of 8 min. I brought her down to check her over. Everything was good so I took her back up and got a little more aggressive. First problem is the blue covering on the wing cam off 3/4 of the way and bacame a streamer trailing behind the plane. Second problem is the LH elevator servo is floping loose in the fuse. I suppose it would have been worse, but there isn't really anywhere for it to go. Unfortunately, the floppy elevator control made my second flight landing a bit rough, and I subsequently over flared the landing and on the grass she nosed over and caught the prop, which in turn twisted the engine box off the front of the fuse. My questions are: What it the best way to fix the elevator sevo mount so this wont happen again? What is the best way to reinforce the other side? What is the best way to build up the engine box without adding too much weight? (as the box is repairable, and broke halfway down the ply and separated the front wall from the ply) What is the cost/availability of a replacement fuse w/qq color scheme? (in case I cant fix this one properly) Thanks for your response BK |

Hi Brian, Not sure on your fix. I have an 85 inch QQ Yak, I had a problem with the undercarage mounting that required major repairs. I contacted QQ to inform them that I thought in my opinion the system in this (85) model was less than perfect. I would have to say I got a response that I would never expected, very positive along with his distributor here in Australia. QQ backs his product fully and is obviouslly fully committed to producing a top flying and well manufactured model, If I was you I would contact them through his web site, you might be suprised. Regards, Cookie |

mxwrench; I too had an elevator servo mount come loose but it happened on the 40th flight... I had no problems flying the plane and didn't realise it had happened until I got home from the IMAC it happened at. Thankfully it's an interlocking structure that prevents the servo from coming out of the fuse. The way I fixed and reinforced it was with 30 min. epoxy and microballoons around the the loose area. To prevent it from happening again I shoved a few pieces of thin balsa inside the gaps... Sorry to hear the landing didn't go so well... best thing to do is get her fixed up quick and back in the air! You'll like the way it flies more and more every flight ![]() Hope this helps... Chris. |

Do you fly at the Chatham Aeronauts field. We were just there this weekend for a pattern contest. I love flying at that field. Mike Darr |

Hi BK, Sorry to hear about your problems. My questions are: What it the best way to fix the elevator sevo mount so this wont happen again? Epoxy or Thin and Thick CA would do the job. In case of CA, Use thin CA to make sure it has penetrated everywhere and then use gap filling CA. Do not use accelerator because it will make it brittle. Epoxy and microballoons is also a good idea. What is the best way to reinforce the other side? The other side just CA. What is the best way to build up the engine box without adding too much weight? (as the box is repairable, and broke halfway down the ply and separated the front wall from the ply) What engine were you using? I wouldn't be concern about the weight if you were using DA50. Please email me some pictures and I will get back to you on the engine box. What is the cost/availability of a replacement fuse w/qq color scheme? (in case I cant fix this one properly) I don't think we have any QQ scheme fuse left but please double check with Molly at qqaircraft.com However the way you described your engine box, I can help you repair it. Thanks for your response Sorry to hear about those issues. BK[/quote] |
