You only need a regulator if you go Li-ion..If you decide to go that route go with Fromeco

You can also use a 4.8 or 6v Nicad/Nimh for the igniton.

Smart Fly Cut off is not mandatory but they are great to have..I have them in all my planes

I use a 4.8V 1100mAh Nicad pack for ignition and a setco kill switch.

I use a 4.8v 4/5A 2100 pack. Smart fly cut off is not needed but could be used, never used one personally. If you want to go with li-ion I suggest Fromeco also.
Just my 2 cents

I use a Fromeco 2400 pack with regulator and a Smart-Fly optical engine cut off. Works great and gives that little extra safety. I also use a servo on the choke.

The wire with the red insulation hooks up to the hall effect sensor. The other lead with the power pole plug is the power into the ignition. This is where the ignition pack plugs in and the kill switch will go between the battery pack and the ignition module. You should have received the other half of the power pole plug with the engine. You can make a lead and use the power pole plug or you can cut it off and use a servo type lead. I use the power pole plug. Hope this helps...

I use a 4.8v 1600mah with a Smart-Fly optical engine cut off. I only use Li-ion for the control surfaces. Don't see the need to spend the money on a more expensive battery and regulator when the ignition is designed for 4.8V.
