Sorry for way off topic, well it is my flying truck! So the starter is bad. Go out this morning with a cup-O-coffee and my big boy wrench kit. Pull the truck into a barn, get the drop light and everything ready and crawl under the beast. No problem right? Hell there's only 3 bolts or so, 15 minute job right? Then I see the bolts holding the starter in,,,,,WTF? They look like Torque, but they're male,,,, Called up a machinist buddy. "Hell I've seen those damn things, but don't even know what they're called. Let me look in my books,,,,,,,,Nope, don't even show 'em. Sorry!" So what wrench do I need to ask for for these things? Anybody ? PS,, Attention Mr. Dodge. Golly, swell truck!! Jeepers, it's FUN to work on!!

Yup,,just got back from Auto Zone. Guy looked at me like I'd lost it. "I haven't a clue what you're talking about. Back to dealership Monday to get what I need. Not real keen on Dodge right now.

Biff, I'm a Cummins guy, but I don't believe that we do the starter... Its a Dodge Part..... However, according to the diesel forums, its a 10mm 12point socket that will remove that bolt.... Like this one (link below) http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...seBVCookie=Yes I got this info from http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...=starter+bolts You might want to register and verify what I found to make sure its correct before you head to Sears. Good luck bro!

Biff, If this is the type of bolt you're trying to remove, you can get sockets for them at Sears (10mm). They are sold individually as well as in sets. I would get two, one flex point for the top and one standard for the bottom two bolts. Since the starter will "hang" from the top bolt, remove that one first and it won't bind and be harder to remove. I would also suggest a long extension (18") to get that top bolt. |

Biff, It's called an inverted Torx. The sized are listed in e series. i.e. E12. Autoparts store should have them. So will Sears. The dealer won't have them, but maybe a mechanic will loan you one. Yeah right. He'll just tell you to bring it in so he can fix it. Tow up here to Michigan, I'll get you going in no time. Mike Darr |
