I got home from work today and the weather was great. Replaced a gearbox shaft on my mini funtana and decided to go out back and take her up. I have a good size back yard with plenty of room to fly except some really tall trees in the back of my yard. I got her airborne and was flying around hovering and what not.. started a rolling harrier and didn't pay attention to how close the tree was. You guessed it smack, right in the top of a 60 foot tree toward the trunk. I jiggle control surfaces for 30 minutes trying to wiggle it out and uhhhh nope. Let see 2100 mah TP Lipoly GONE, JR 610UL receiver GONE, Hitec Hs 55 servos GONE, Himax motor 2025-4200 and gearbox GONE. Over $300 dollars shot. I think I'll go vomit now, and my wife don't know yet. I doubt anything will be any good after its all said and done.

Did you ever get it back? If not a good way to retrieve planes from trees is with a fishing poll and a sinker. Cast it over the branch and drop it down to the ground. Tie a rope to the sinker and drag the rope back over the branch. Bounce it till it shakes out of the tree. I have had to do it about 2 or 3 times now and it works like a charm

ACCAPTAIN, I just had the same problem with mine. I stuck my turmoil in the tree, it rained for 5 days straight. I tried the fishing pole and sinker trick but no luck for me. So what I did is connected 7 concrete float poles together and stuck it up in the tree. I got my plane down and all the electronics were still in good shape. Dont give up on it, you can do it. I recommend you get a second person to help you if you try the concrete float poles trick, if not go to the store and buy about 2 boxes of wheaties and you can do it. Good Luck Bud!

If the plane is destroyed and/or you really dont care about the plane alot, just the electronics, then get a bow and arrow and tie a rope to the end of a arrow, and try to shoot the arrow up in the fuse or wings and grab on to the other end of the rope and slowly pull it down. Thats what i would do. I've had a small electric plane w/ a nitro conversion that was overpowered and went up in a tree that was about 100' high in my school yard, and we got it down after making a few holes in the fuse. just my opinion....

I crashed it in the tree at dusk, so I had no time before night fell to try and retrieve it. A friend of mine I talked to a little while ago said to use the fishing pole trick. I don't think I can cast this bait caster that high without some heavier weights. I have only spinner baits in the tackle box. This really does suck. It was kind of funny when I turned off the radio and put it inside the plane jittered and the motor keep trying to spin for another 20 minutes or so until the lipoly ran out or the speed controller shut it off. Which by the way I forgot to mention the lost 25 castle controller as well . I just told the wife, it didn't go over well!!

There is the old furring strip method too. Buy a bundle or more of furring strips at local home depot or lows and use drywall screws to screw them together. Once you get the right height of furring strips just walk it up the tree and try and take a whack at it.

I like the saying in your signature. (What goes up must come down) Not if it went up and got stuck in a tree!! MY LUCK. I don't know why but me and electrics just don't get along. Everytime I have one... something either breaks on them or I screw up and crash the darn things. |
