Default Studying Away in Australia, or New Zealand

Hello, my name is Adam Bry. I'm a 20 year old engineering student from the US, and I want to spend next semester (fall for you guys) down under. I've been flying R/C since I was 10 and competing in IMAC for 7 years, so while I'm there I'd love to do some flyin. I haven't decided on a university yet so any suggestions on where to look and what schools have good engineering programs (preferably aeronautical/aerospace) would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Adam

also, not sure if they're on here but I've flown with Frazer Briggs and Grant Finlay at the Tucson Shootouts.

Hi Adam

I am Alan Belworthy, I was Grants caller at the Shootout. Both Grant and Frazer live in Hamilton. Waikato University is in Hamilton. http://www.waikato.ac.nz/

Also Baldrik and I live in Tauranga, 1 hour from Hamilton and we do a lot of flying from a model site based on a full size airfield 1/2 way between Hamilton and Tauranga.

Hope this helps
Alan

I studied at the University of Waikato while on a study abroad program during my undergraduate studies here in the US. I loved every minute of the time I spent in NZ, and can't wait to go back one day. I highly recommend the University.

Bloody place has never been the same since you left either Banks. Lots of stories about some hootnanny parties down by the pond my mate. You got rekerlektions about that dude. I hear the grass is still dead in few spots.

Ombry I have been away 26 years so not of any help at all but Bogan is on here and you should light a fire under his tail. You will llikely get him in the Kiwi forum. I havent seen Aunty in here but I'm sure he's lurkin here under a false name.

Adam, you any relation to Douglas of the RC video fame by any chance??

Bahahaha, That poor pond will never be the same... Port... never drink that again... Cant say enough good things about NZ, I didnt want to leave when the semester was up! Not to mention, the currency conversion was 2:1 for every American dollar I had, I was able to take many trips, do alot of fishing, and have a really good time in between "studying..."

Default Re: Studying Away in Australia, or New Zealand

So I ended up at Monash University, Clayton Campus, in Melbourne. I shipped a couple of Insane Foamies Yaks to myself, along with all the equipment to fly, except I didn't realize 72mhz wasn't legal. I talked to someone at a local hobby shop (Wingspan Hobbies) who was going to see about ordering the proper module and micro receiver for a 9C.

A few questions:

What's the best hobby shop in the area for R/C planes?

Are there any local clubs/flying fields? I don't have a car, so I would have to be able to get close by bus or train.

What are the online/mail order comapanies used most frequently down here?

Might be a bit of a stretch, but anyone have an extra futaba 9C module I could borrow/rent/buy for a few months?

If anyone is in the area I would love to hang out and fly. I might not have anything ready to go for a little while depending on how quickly I can get a module, but I'd love to see the flying scene.

thanks,
Adam
