hey folks I am almost done setting up my 33% Sukhoi and I had a question. I am running single aileron servos with 5955's on them including the elevator. I have read some horror stories about them locking up etc and was wondering if you guys can advise me. my setup is a smart fly power expander and the smart fly regulated switch for my 2 x 2400 fromecos. Questions is: am I in any danger of running my synthesized Futaba R319DPS rx with these servos? Nothing is on a "y" connector and everything is routed through the smart fly equipment. I just read some posts regarding Futaba rx's and Hitec servos not getting along together. any input is appreciated

I use 5955's with my Futaba G3 RX's with no probs at all. If you are running single servos on all surfaces just leave them as they are out of the box, you wont need to programm them. They may lock up on you if you program them for shorter then max travel then try to drive them past that by setting too high a travel in your TX. Take your time and you wont have any issues. What you may notice if you run your low rate with less then 40% travel that you will get a stepping motion in the movement of the servo, this will not effect flight at all so dont panic and think you have dud servo's. If you really dont want the stepping just set up your linkages mechanicly to get as much resolution out of your servos as possible. Hope this helps.

| On my QQ yak I have one 5955 on each elevator. I have them in a Y connector going into the reciever. The problem with the 5955 is you have to have the update in the servos for them to work on a Y with a futaba reciever. So I figured out from flyinggiants!!!! That I would have to send them in for updating. So when I got them back I put the two elevator servos on a Y and problem was solved. With your setup you dont have to worry about my problem. Your setup is totaly oblivious of my previous problem. Because you have nothing on a Y you dont have this problem. Always happy to help! Prime_Time |

Yeah.. I haven't heard any issues with any of the 5955s in a really long time. All the problems that I know of were due to using a V1.03 programmer on v1.04 servos. I program servos with the correct software and tehre are no issues at all. I also use the MAX ATV I can get away with.

well the 5955's are new im pretty sure so I will not think about until I get to start it up this week and tweak my throws etc. I am running 1.25" swb arms on it and I have not played with maxing out the throws yet but I dont think I will be though. 100% is usually all I need for 3D with a proper mechanical setup. thanks guys, ill let you know how it goes once I get done. Maiden should be this coming weekend pics to follow

didnt think of that, will def try it this week when I tweak the throws. Is there any negative effect of having atv to max on the radio? Again, I hate to sound like a baby but I am scared since I have never had this type of complex setup before ![]() thanks for the info and the confidence I need

I spent some time at dinner one night in Toledo last year talking with Mr. Glavin about servos, and he REALLY knows his stuff. He told us about servo geometry and the reasons why servo "Burn-out" and quite a few other things I think some of us never even think about. If you have any question about servos and geometry, drop him a line and I am sure he will answer your questions.................

I agree!! Mr. Glavin is outstanding at helping. He spent a bunch of time with me determining the optimium placement on my Dalton. However, I did a rework. The servo bays and hard points were already installed before I hooked up with him. His theories and explainations made perfect sense (I'm sure after beating his head against the wall with me). Anyway, the best place to start thinking about the bay placements, hard point installation etc, is BEFORE you start the build. Think about what the airplane's main function is going to be and your anticipated throws necessary to produce that function. He'll really give you the in's and out's of why, where and how the system works as a whole. It's really nice to believe that people who know and enjoy sharing their knowledge with others, really do exist, expecting nothing but workable results in the end. Michael Glavin is one of these people. |
