Torques, this kind of thread never leads to any good information. Each servo will have its loyal following, and this makes the thread a battle where there is no winner. Read the specs of each servo, and ask people thier experiences about each servo. Make your own decision. The truth is, that this week in Tucson, the best pilots in the world will be battling it out for a stack of cash and fame... and you will find both the JR 8611a and the Hitec tg5955 servos in competitors planes... If either servo is good enough for these guys.. either one will be good for you. As I said ask reliability questions, thoughts on the gear train, but a general "which is better" type of question will usually get you no answers, and a lot of angry product bashing posts. And that is not Giant style. So guys.. I'm gonna leave this open.. but lets not go to that dark place... Thanks. S

Sleepyc sorry my idea is not to arm a war, single to know as to buy. I see that both servo they have good and bad commentaries. On the other hand pardon by my English (very very bad). Torques.... |

No worries. Its just when you ask a "VS." question.. it tends to get the guys who love one brand to start bashing the other brand. People will provide useful information if you ask for it. Personally i have used many Hitec 5955's, and have loved them. I find the gear play is minimal, and the use of a Hitec programmer lets you use multiple servos with out a match box... I love them.

Here is my short and quick take on them, Power and speed are a mute point they are so near each other. 8611a - develop gear slop 5955 - Single servo per aileron, 100 flights...just as tight as the day ther were bought. Also programmable so that matchbox's are not needed. No brand loyalty here.....I just use what works the best for me. Neo |

matchboxes are also not needed for the JR's. There is not a single matchbox in any of my big planes and there are multiple servos on each serface.

True matchbox's are not needed on any plane. That's how they setup the big planes before products like matchbox's were available. You just have to make sure you have everything is setup properly...legnth of linkages and geometry must be exact so that there is no binding. I just find it's easier to program them. They are both good and you can't go wrong with either one. Ferrari or Lamborgini ? Chocholate or vanilla ? Soft Serve or Scooped ? Mustang or Camero ? ETC... you get the point. Personally I think you shold get whatever is suported by local club members and hobby shops. That way you have help around if questions arise.

Good point!!!!! I would also recommend the video for programming servo's on DOD's website if you've never done it before. It's a great vid and it will really help out if you go with the 5955's and don't have any experience doing it. http://www.downonthedeck.com/videos_instruction.htm Neo | |||||||||||||||
