Default tach readings on 150

what are the desired tach readings you guys have gotten from a Mej 30 x 12 2 blade? I am located in Ga. and have gotten a reading of 5700 and change...I was thinking more on the lines of 6000....what cha think?

Should I start in on the needles, the engine is well broken in going on 2 years old, the high needle may have been adjusted a tad one time before... I am ruuning the engine on MTW 100 (?) cannsiters...the long and skinny ones with Flex headers un cut.

Thanks for the help!

Joe

Hello Joe
Sorry to be late responding. We are burning the candle at all ends this week with the Tucson Shootout.
We typically see about 6,000 with your set up. Assuming the tach and prop are normal, I think we need to take a look at the engine. (Possible stuck ring?)
Please let us know if you would like us to give it a quick check up.

Thanks
Dave

Hello,

Do you normally see lower readings on wood props such as Menz, NX in compare to Mejzlik?

Sorry Dave, forgot all about that....anyways, thanks for the response and I will attempt to go in on the needles to see how much I can get. I am going to put the prop on a buddies plane just to see what he is taching before I go in on the needles....his engine is very similiar in set up, only few more years of break in. will keep you posted.

Thanks!

welp, I am baffeled to say the least. Since I put this thread up last year...I have yet been able to come close 6000 RPM on the 30x12 Mej. I have had several suggestions from friends and have tackeled this setup...I have pulled off the engine and I am going to send it in... I put on a newer engine with 5 gallons lawnboy in it and now running amsoil....STILL cannot get anything higher than 5800 and change...and after the engine has flowna circuit, I tack 5710 or lower...the engine just dont seem to come to life....how does one tune in the 150? I have heard conflicting methods...some say tackle the low end until you get the nasty starving sound the engine puts out when transitioning from low to high throttle movement, then back off until it goes away; then go after the high needle settings. Others have said to go after highest RPM...then back off a bit, then go after the low needle....any help would be appreciated, by the way, what is the factory needle settings on the 150? I have lost my paperwork so I cannot resort to that.

Thanks in advance!

Try a different 30-12! You would be amazed by the difference in the "same" prop. I get 6100 on a 30-12 and about 5750 on a 32-10, both Mejzlik.

Joe,

If you did not send it in from the time that you started the thread I would certainly suggest that. As Dave said you may have a stuck ring or bad front bearing seal. After that if you continue to have problems then I would try a new 30x12.

Also I am sure you probably saw it in the manual but the high is 2 turns and the low is 5/8 of a turn.

My 150 will turn a Menz 32 x 10 at 5200 on stock mufflers. I get 5700 on a NX 32 x 10. Engine is 2 years old.
