Default Emcotec DPSI RV talk

What happens in Emcotec if the microprocessor dies ? (they do have a MTBF, right ?)
The micro-controller within the DPSI is used only for the voltage detection and the evaluation of possible failures within the power supply. When the micro-controller fails, the complete system will work (but without beeper and LED flash). The unit can be switched on and off as always and you will not see any influence to the radio system. In short the unit is designed to operate less some bells and whistles in the event of various internal failures…

MTBF testing was NOT performed because RC electronic is not a medical or automotive product. The additional cost to pay for this testing is excessive and was deemed unnecessary. Emcotec’s experience from several thousand systems without any failure in the field speaks volumes! Emcotec is very proud of their extensive quality assurance and therefore no problems have come to light to date.

Default Re: Emcotec DPSI RV talk

That sounds like a "fail safe" design in it's original meaning. I undestand that's how the regular unit works. How does the TWIN version handle failed CPU ?

If I was designing it, I'd use external gate for every channel and if the CPU failed, it would default to input from receiver nr. #1. This way, a failure of individual gate would only kill one channel and CPU failure woudn't be catastrophic.

I believe the TWIN works the same as the standard DPSI in regards to the CPU. my notes don't suggest there is a diffeence. I never asked about the default choice with the TWIN. Possibly this function is performed with more simple/reliable discreet components. I'll inquire.
