Rolling harrier loop - Help a brotha out!

Hi Guys, first 3D question, can't believe I haven't asked yet... Ok, so what's the deal with the rolling harrier loop? I've tried like mad on the sim to get this hooked up, but my brain always explodes coming from verticle to the top of the loop. Coming down seems to be easier to practice as I can enter from inverted and "cheat" it. I'm pretty decent at harrier rolls, but I can't seem to take that axis and put it on it's side.

Any advice is welcome, pullin' me hair out!

I am working on these too. I was having the same problem. I can do rolling harrier circles, but trying to do it vertically was a brain scrambler. The biggest thing to help me so far has been to slow the sim rate down to like 60% and work on the timing. If you can do a rolling harrier, then you probably already know the inputs you need to do, and it is just a matter of training your brain and fingers. I did the same thing when learning rolling harriers....slowed the sim rate down to 60%, and when I could control it, bumped it up to 70%, then 80%, etc. If I slow the sim rate down at first, I can learn to correct throughout the loop, rather than just getting lucky with the timing.

The other thing that seems to help me at the top is to not let it get too slow.

I am sure there are some subtle things the big dogs are doing. Hopefully they will post some advice.

It's not very hard if you can do rolling harrier you just need to know some things that help very much... I could not do it untill I got this tip from doc...

I tested it in the last flight with my extra 2 weeks back it worked fine ... but right now my engine is broke :-) it has to go back to 3W so... more will be for next season

If you are on top release the power... you will see that your tail will fall over the plane and he will come flat in about 3/4 of your rolling loop... in this way you have a nice circle... if you hold the power up the tail stays up and it's difficult to get your plane back to level.

I have no real tips for going up .. it's just practice not really difficult if you can do nice in and out rolling harriers...

Very simple, if you are good at rolling harriers all you have to do is increase power as needed, I go full power and I increase stick movement, that is for climbing, now for descending I reduce power, in my case I go to idle or a little above and continue with a lot of stick movement, that would make for a tight loop, adjust as needed for a bigger loop, in my case all I have to do is move the left stick in circles, mode one baby. Good luck.

Basically you are using the same inputs with what the guys said above. I decrease throttle on the downside to idle or a little above and after about 3/4 of the way down I start to add power.That will bring it to level flight, then just do normal harrier rolls or roll out.

If you are trying them left to right (entry) rolling right basically you just input your elevator/rudder inputs later than you normally would with an outside rolling circle to the right - to when the plane is inverted and not on its side . . .

This is how i do it...

Start with a RH, make sure you have the timing perfect and its nice and steady, not turning, dead strait.

Start to add power, depending on the plane and its power to weight ratio, you might or might not need full power, controll movements i usually find have to be reduces. This first half is more like a tight rolling loop, as you arnt really in a harrier attitude.

As you get to the top, start to recude power, and elongate the top of the loop so it is longer. when you get to say, 5/8th of the loop, idle the power, and really slam those controlls to the sides of the TX, make sure you get the plane into the horizontal as quickly as possible, sorta like a rolling elevator. Keep it at idle 'till you want to pull out, then add power and adjust controlls to go into a rolling harrier again. on the flip over to horizontal rolling elevator, you might need blasts of power to keep the ailerons going, as they do struggle.

Also, my 2m yak with a 22" prop strugles to do it to the right due to the torque, but to the left its a breeze.
