Help! TWO RX'S

SO YOU HAVE A TRAILER-HOUSE WITH TOW TVS
one on each end you only have one antenna hanging out of the roof

Why not join the antenna's In you plane .
Everyone says that the rang is better with one Rx,
because the antenna does not get blanked out by the others one ,(RIGHT).
So tell me why this would not work,
or why some one has not all ready tried this .

Has anyone with either good science or empirically proven that 2 Rx's have less range???

I can't see it....

Go out and try it. i dont think that 2 RX wires would lessen the range. I could be wrong but i highly doubt it.

Ok, since you compared it to an RV with two TVs and one antenna, I will tell you how that is different from our airplanes.

An RV does have one antenna, but most have an "active" antenna that has an amplifier built into it. One cable coming down from the roof, which goes into a splitter that routes the signal in more than one direction, ie: two or more TVs. Since the signal has to be split, some of the energy goes down each leg of the splitter, so there is less signal level going to each TV than comes from the antenna. This is one reason why there is an amplifier in the antenna.

Why would you NOT want to do this in an airplane?? Hmmm. What happens if the amplifier in the antenna dies? The whole reason for two RXs in a plane is for redundancy, isn't it? It is an attempt at getting rid of a single-point catastrophic failure.

I've heard it is possible for two receivers in close proximity to one another to actually cause a reduction in range. I've not personally seen any evidence one way or the other, but I can believe it would be a problem. Both receivers have a local oscillator (the reason for the crystal) and it would be possible for this signal to couple out through the antenna into another nearby RX. Maybe someone with RF experience can chime in on this.

Intersting you say this....
I have taken 2 Rx's side by side and if they are within 8 to 12 inches of eachother,
you can power up both Rx's, and remove the crystal from one Rx, and the oscillator from the other Rx will cause the Crystal'less Rx to function... It does not always function perfectly smoothly... but it functions mostly...
This is repeatable...

Now THAT is interesting!!! That is proof that the local oscillator's frequency is coupling to the other RX.
