DA-50 Exhaust Gasket

I lost my original exhaust gasket and I'm finding that silicon gasket maker doesn't
hold up. It works for a while before getting blow by. What are most people using
paper gasket or a silicon gasket. Whats the DA recommendation.

I use Permatex High Temp RTV silicone - it is red in color - and have never had a problem. I use it on the screw threads also and have never had one come loose either.

Yes, i did the same following slimline advice and it's ok. and use it not only around the exit port, include the screws area.

Well I'll make it three I use permatex hi temp as well one season and no loose screws or failure.

Crazy as this sounds, I use cardboard.....

I made a gasket out of the kind of thick cardboard that beer/coke boxes are made out of, then I put a thin coat on each side with the high temp RTV. It's dirt cheap, easy, and works well. I've found that RTV only doesn't seem to work too well. I've used straight up cardboard too. That works for a while, but eventually the engine will burn it's way through. That will get you through a weekend without a problem though.

I currently use the stock gaskets from DA as my preferred gasket. They don't leak, seep, creep...nothing. So everytime I order, I have them throw some extras in in case I have to remove the pipes. The only bummer is they are one time use.

Aside from that, I have had very good results with a Yamaha product that they use as a gasket material for their cranks cases. It is a version of a high temp silicone sealant that is grey in color and lasts much better than the RTV. The best results for making sure the silicone doesn't leak is to make a nice consisten bead all the way around the port...attach the muffler or header making contact with the silicone, but leaving a little gap...wait overnight for the silicone to set up and then crank down on the muffler bolts. Works just like magic.

OK I got the red stuff installed. Nice bead on the muffler then finger tight on the screws and let
sit 24 hours be fore snugging the screws down. I'll see how long that lasts.

If that doesn't work I have some paper gasket material that I'll try next with
the red silicon on each side..
