Pimp my ride, 50%plane style

Posted 04-21-2008 at 06:30 PM by 50%plane
Well, unfortunately, I totalled my last ride,(a '97 Honda Accord 4door sedan) so I had to buy another car. I enjoyed the Accord so much that I had to buy another one, this time, is mostly in the stock configuration.

Now, I'll admit, I'm not the best at doing things like this.(i.e. walmart spinners ) So, I thought I would post everything I do on here and let the ridicule begin.(or suggestions)

To start off, here's some pictures of the car as it sits now:

So far, I'm thinking about changing the taillights, hood, and possibly the front bumper, as well as a bumpin sound system, and leather interior. And, if I feel like it, upgrading the rims.

So, here's what I've found so far:

Taillights:

http://www.amazon.com/Honda-Accord-L...818063&sr=8-27

I like the look, I didn't know if I wanted the euro look after the ugly lights on my last car,(came with the car) but These are growing on me.

Now, the wing:

Here's a picture of a "97 Civic that I saw the other day:

I tend to like that wing, I'm not sure where to get it, or even if it's too much of a wing for my car. If anyone has any thoughts, please entertain me.

Now, the hood:

Here's another pic of the same Civic:

I like the looks of the hood, and I definitely want something more pronounced as the stock hood is really ugly.

I'm not sure if I want the scoop to be going fowards, or backwards.(as in the pic) One concern would be precipitation getting in the engine area and rusting what shouldn't get wet.(don't know if that's an issue or not.

I don't know what I want in a sound system yet. I know so little, but my last car had a clear sound(more mids) than any of the other cars I've driven lately, and I'm going towards something like that.

Personally, I'm a fan of subtle customs. Wings and that hood look just plain stupid......

Now some killer wheels, a great lighting package and a subtle good quality body kit will go a long way....

Carbon hoods look good on Accords too but I don't know about that year.....

All good points!

The reason I was looking at wings was because the stock spoiler looks really bad, IMO. The rear of the car needs something......

Any ideas are appreciated.

The same reason was for the hood, I hate the stock hood. Any suggestions will be welcome.

I'm planning to keep the car white, for the time being, but I can make vinyl to add to the scheme. (such as in the cool "underoath" on the rear window)

Either of those does not look to bad. A co-worker has the simpler one.

Good find on the 2 door ! I know I am getting old, and I had one of the first Wings West super style wings myself on a 94 'teg, but for me, that wing and hood are way too much. The subtle VIS hood looks pretty decent though. Try to stay out of that Wally World auto customizing section ! - Jason

Thanks for the opinions! The more I think about the hood, the more I like it. Now, if I can find one for a '94......

Do I need to modify the car to use pins to hold the hood down, or will it work in stock configuration? (carbon is much stronger than aluminum)

Also, anyone have any suggestions for a sound system, or where I should look to find what I want? Also, any guides on how to match a system?

Depends on how the hood is made and the application, I think the VIS hoods are made to use stock hinges and latches....

I have been out of the stereo scene too long to offer any advice there....

Lemme see......A HUGE cowl induction hood to that will hold a bone stock engine.....worst thing ever. Go with something a little more modest....it'll look better in the end. Same thing with the spoiler.

Here is the way I would do it. Start off with a nice set of rims and low profile tires. This sets a nice base to build off of. After that I would go with a nice ground effect kit with a new paint job. Go with a more modest spoiler then followed up with a more modest hood "than the one shown in your first pics". I like the look of a well done ricer.....but when overdone...it just looks like trash.

There are so many poorly overdone ricers in town it nearly make me sick hearing them. Yes I said hearing them. A car that looks like it can go 150mph but in reality doesn't have enough HP to get out of it's own way while make a horrible sound from the tail pipe is the most annoying thing ever. If your gonna go over the top with the mods....be sure it has it under the hood to match.

To install hood pins all you have to do is mount them in the correct spot on the frame and drill 2 holes in your new hood *cringe*

There are a bunch of different styles. look around.

there are also hood pin appearance kits. All you do is mount them on the hood with double stick tape.

If you want a car that looks like a mustang, why didn't you just buy a mustang? I can't tell you what to like, but my feelings are that that's a huge waste of money.

I can understand a nicer stereo, but all of those body mods are pretty much pointless. The wing creates drag lowering the gas mileage at a time when gas is approaching 4 bucks a gallon, and the rest is just to create the illusion of a car that is faster than it really is.

It always makes me laugh when i pull away from a stop light in my civic and there is another civic next to me that is all "pimped" out and it accelerating at the same rate or slower but it sounds like it should be doing 150 miles an hour.

I just don't see what the point is, I never needed a fake race car to get laid. I'm not saying that's why you need it either, it's just hard to see any other reason to do all that crap.

I hope I'm not losing all my friends before I even meet any of you guys. I need to clarify that is just my opinion. If that is what you want to do with your car, then you should. I just feel differently about cars. I want a kick ass car when i get out of school, I just don't think that doing all of those mods to my civic would get me there. It's still just a civic. Sheep in wolves clothing.

two words: Chick magnet

just kidding

As far as gas goes, My last one only got 40MPG(with a smaller wing), this one's down to 35 or so, at least according to the first tank. I put some stuff in the gas to clean out the injectors though. Hopefully it will fix that.

I'm not trying to make the car look fast, I hate the stupid mufflers that most folks put on. I had never looked into hoods as much before I posted this blog, I had just seen the one that I posted pics of. However, the Invader hood looks to be up my street. If I find one, I'll probably get it.

The wing, I'm stumped on. I know the huge wing is stupid, but I want something that will make the trunk area look bigger. I haven't found anything smaller that looks good. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to post them. I haven't even scratched the surface looking for something.

How are you getting 40mpg? My girlfriend has the same car with low profiles and the best she can get is about 28mpg.

40mpg on the highway. no hop ups, other than clean injectors and a new airfilter.I don't know what I get in the city though, my guess is around 30.

my civic clears about 36mpg. but it still pisses me off that it costs around 40 bucks to fill it up now. i need to get an electric heli so i can just step out into my front yard and fly something. it sucks to have to drive anywhere. i need an aptera. we all need apteras. 300mpg is the way to go. or get a tesla and go straight up electric.

Best way to dress up the rear is a hitch and a trailer with a big ol' plane in it! Then head off to the flying field with "The Circus"! :-)
