Fellow Giants! This is Chris Mulcahy a.k.a. "CSpaced". I've been flying choppers since 2000, and during the last two years I've started flying planks too. I love everything about the hobby, there is always one facet of it or another that will keep you going. Most importantly are the people, without all of you fellow enthusiasts eggin' each other it wouldn't be half the fun that it is!

hasta la Vista baby...

I bit the bullett and bought a new laptop to replace my ailing Inspiron 2200. I went with Dell again and picked up a loaded 1525.

This is the first computer I've had with Vista as the operating system. At first it was all "oooo's" and "ahhh's" with the cool aero interface, animated program toggling back and forth, etc... but this soon gave way to frustration. Is it just me is Vista like much slower than XP? Just simple tasks like browsing folders with thumbnails seems to take longer, or even opening up windows explorer!

This is going to take some getting used to....

We had AFPD running on a very fast system at 500-700 fps on XP. When it was converted to Vista we ended up at 200-400 fps.

Vista Sucks, it eats memory. Go to your task manager and click on physical memory usage, its three times what my cleaned XP system is. If you upgrade your memory by another gig it will help ,and get rid of all the programs running in the background before you play a game.

Chris, we wont run Vista on any company machines and I had to remove it from the PC's in the house. Its the most frustrating retrograde ever from MS.

I now have a really cool Mac but it wont run any of the good sims. Suppose I need to get another new new Mac. My G5 has the dual processor and 16Gb Ram. Its a rocket and I love it, plus to upgrade just to run a sim is way too much money just for that privilege.

I hear ya all, the more I use Vista the more frustrating it gets. I cant believe the drop in speed. I do have a copy of XP sitting around, I may just load that on there and be done with it!

My company just made the change to mac . I couldn't be happier. I still keep a stripped down xp gaming computer that I built ,but for everything from work to home I'm mac pro all the way.
