Image: http://bp3.blogger.com/_HPY6FYOxKOg/RkrLY9NEN8I/AAAAAAAAAYE/1XlfeZnQato/s200/mad_jack.gif (http://bp3.blogger.com/_HPY6FYOxKOg/RkrLY9NEN8I/AAAAAAAAAYE/1XlfeZnQato/s1600-h/mad_jack.gif)
*Rogue Hexham flyer Axel Lifter had a bit of an incident the other week. Axel, major purchaser of Chris Foss products, owned a 'Wots Wot'. This aerobatic bi-plane was proving a bit of a handful and was often seen terrorising the field on the edge of control. In an effort to tame this beast, Axel had come across a product promising to keep his wayward plane straight and level whenever he didn't intervene (a happier state of affairs for all at the field!). This 21st century product named after fictional rogue computer HAL, was duly fitted and after some brief testing arrived at Hexham field.*

*The weather on the day of the test flight was unusually benign, just the gentlest of WNW breezes and warm sunshine. Axel placed the 'Wots Wot' on the runway and took off. The yellow plane climbed to 400ft AGL and levelled out. It was as Axel attempted to turn back towards the field that events started to take a sinister turn (or not turn in this case). Bystanders swear that they heard an artificial voice say 'I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that' . Axel's face turned ashen as the model failed to respond to his frantic stick twiddling and carried on in a steady WNW direction, beautifully straight and level.*

*To the north west of Hexham field, alarms sounded and screens flashed up warnings at the Shovelmadman missile base. There was an unidentified aircraft flying into their restricted airspace at 400ft! Two Tornado's were scrambled to intercept. Despite incessant radio calls, the unidentified aircraft would not respond. *

Squadron Leader Narra taking aim

*Above Hadrian's Wall, the Tornado's caught up with Axel's wayward model. Realising that an air to air missile launch might be a little over the top on this occasion, Squadron Leader Narra, decided to tip the tiny airframe with his wing vortex. Flying by fast and close the upset air would cause the craft to tumble to the ground. Unfortunately HAL was having none of it and corrected every change of attitude immediately. After several passes had failed to have any adverse impact, Narra decided on desperate measures. Now passing over the luxury resort of Gilsland Spa, Narra opened fire with his 27mm Mauser cannon. On the second attempt, the OS 60 engine was separated from the airframe. The little craft fluttered to the ground in a corn field just west of the Spa. Squadron Leader Narra swears that just before the model struck the ground he heard a metallic voice in his earphones say, 'just what do you think you're doing, Dave?'. *

*As a result of this unfortunate incident, Ripmax have issued a statement. Please **click here* (http://www.ripmax.com/item.asp?itemid=P-XTRA-2151&Category=060)* to read it. *

Wow, I just watched this. It's so wrong in so many ways. If you're in the mood for crude, offensive satire, this is for you.

Well i purchased a new Twist 40 my old one was totaled had a head on collision in a dog fight with a crow. And then the wind took it away into a power pole pretty much toasted it. but all the elelectronics and engine were ok so all i need was an airframe i ended up putting it all in a UCD 46. But i like the plane so much i went and purchased the ARF Version this time. cant say much for that color scheme yuk yellow and purple but the PNP version is alot more expensive and cant see needing all the gear again..
So a rendering of the crash of the PNP 40 a before and after shot and the new plane with a troll for a pilot. Should get some intresting animation with that Doo..:200:

The Dark Knight, Movie Review

What the fork can I say?

I give it five stars.

Honestly, though, I'm not a big movie fan. I don't know who the heck Heath Ledger(sp?) is, but none the less, after watching the trailers for the new Batman movie(The Dark Knight) I really was excited about the scenes with The Joker in it, and I was going to watch the movie. So, my friend and I went to the midnight showing and were not dissapointed.

Hold on for a second, before I make myself seem like a closet Batman freak(think Star Wars worshipers) that goes to opening night, because it will complete my life to see it, NO. I work evenings and was it was the perfect time to watch the movie.

So, back to the review, The movie did not dissapoint. I know everyone is saying that Heath Ledger needs an Oscar posthumously, but unless you've seen the movie, you wouldn't understand. He did an incredible job. Definitely some of the best acting that I've seen! But enough of him, go to the theater and watch his magical pencil trick and at the hospital..... (not to mention "I just want my phone call....LOL!)

The action scenes were awesome. The CGI was pretty good, and everything about the movie was awesome. The only down side is that it's a two and a half hour film, but you wouldn't notice it. It's all around a great ride.

I hope you enjoy "The Dark Knight"(if you haven't already)

The action scenes were awesome. The CGI was pretty good, and everything about the movie was awesome. The only down side is that it's a two and a half hour film, but you wouldn't notice it. It's all around a great ride.

I hope you enjoy "The Dark Knight"(if you haven't already)

And I'm stoked!

I was hesitant to get rid of it as it's a nice radio, but I really had no use for it since I've switched to Spektrum.

So, I gave it to a friend, along with a foamie that I had sitting around. Hopefully soon, we will be able to huck it hardcore together. As soon as my new charger comes in, My foamie fleet will start flying once again.

So yesterday as my father and I rolled up to the field to do some much needed flying I totally had it my mind that today would be different from all the other times that I fly. Normally I just show up, plug in a battery and fly until it's almost dead. Switch batteries and repeat.

Actually, it's not a bad plan. Yesterday, however, was to be different. I was going to actually work on learning new skills. I want to work on the timing to allow me to do harrier rolls and other such rolling maneuvers without losing altitude. Sounded great in my head. 5 batteries later and I have yet to attempt a single one. The South Carolina heat was kicking in and it was time to go.

I think I learned a valuable lesson though. All I need is some stick time to be happy. I don't actually require any true skills. I did manage to drag the tail on the ground while doing some harriers, and I had some decent blenders. I'm just looking forward to to my next chance to not try to learn anything.

every year our club, (valley aeromodelers) vam for short, holds a meeting quarry field. i for one think it should be done every month with good weather. next month we will hold it at our soaring field known as anderson sod farm.
i have included some photos of the after meeting flight and bs session. this usually turns into a family event.
i think all summer days should end as nicely as this one did.
enjoy the photos, and if you have a chance, come visit.

Well I have a full schedule of events coming up... Fun Scale tomorrow. Twin Cities Imac the weekend after. Brazil Summer IMAC the weekend after that. Should be lots of fun! If any of you are out there in MN come on down to AC/RC tomorrow for the fun scale. I'm using it as kind of a warm up for the heavy IMAC schedule I have at the end of the season.

On another note, finally got the DA 85 purring like a kitten. Low speed needle at 7/8 of a turn, high at 1 1/2. Got the idle speed adjusted too so it finally idles down. It's like a whole new airplane. If I don't do good in IMAC in the next couple competitions, I don't think I can blame it on the airplane!

Hancock movie review

wow, where to begin, not a great movie. The first half of it, I was interested. I mean, the story of a "superhero" that screws up all the time sounds interesting. Right?

Hancock started a bit slow, but I patiently waited for the storyline to develop, and it did, but not very well. The second half of the movie went into this cheezy hollywood style series of unlikely twist and turns that turned the movie sour.

Granted, it's not a bad movie. It's definitely one that I wouldn't want to go see again, maybe rent sometime, but I seriously doubt I will buy it.

That's right, I'm now a Wii tenis pro.:200::198:

I suffered through watching a bungh of tenis today at the gym, so much that I had to come home, and I reached my 1000 points to become a pro.

I'm amazed at how many chicks play womens tenis. On my Wii, there's a bunch of guys and a few asian chicks...... I guess I need to create some more mii's....

I think I need more games though..... I have Super Paper Mario coming as well as some flying game.(I forget which one) I might have to get Mario Cart as well...

so, back in december i had tonsils removed in an attempt to sure my sleep apnea. for about a month and a half i had some of the best sleep of my life. then it started going back to the way it was before the surgery. i went to see my surgeon and he suggested a follow-up sleep study to see if there is some other problem that might be causing me to experience apnea again. i did the sleep study about 2 weeks ago and last week i got my results. i had no signs of apnea, but.....they seem to think i might have narcolepsy. how awesome is that? something with no real cure, a lifetime of being tired and not being able to do anything about it. there are medications, stimulants for example. but who wants to experience the constant highs and lows and the possible addiction. anti-depressants are also recommended, bye-bye sex life. the last one is a drug called xyrem, aka GHB, aka the date rape drug. same exact formulation. apparently you can only get directly from the maker, jazz pharma, and it's unlikely that insurance will pay the $1000 a month it costs. but i guess i would make a great date. who knows, maybe i don't actually have it. i still have yo get further testing done.

i love my precision aerobatics addiction. it is by far one of the absolute best planes i have ever flown. it will do whatever i want it to or at least whatever i can make it do, and then slow down nicely and settle onto the ground right in front of me. i have slammed into the ground on more than one occasion now and other than a cracked wheel pant there is no damage. and, unlike all of the large scale airplanes out there, it fits nicely into the trunk of my honda civic. sorta. i have to put the seats down to fit the rudder.

New to this and my new Pitts S2-A

Hello.

I am a new member from Denmark and this is a little test of blogging.:198:
It is about my new model a Pitts S2-A from an kit from Exclusiv Modellbau in Germany.
The quality of the kit is outstanding the parts fit is perfect and it goes together easily if you are used to build.:197:
I have a ZDZ 120cc gas engine with Krumscheid mufflers and a 26x12 Mejzlik 3-bladed propeller on it and it runs great.
The radio gear is Futaba/Emcotec with Hi-Tec Digital servoes.
The plane is completely covered with Oracover which is strong and light, the finished model with one liter of gas weights 17,4 kg.
It is a great flier and when you first have tried this you don`t want small models anymore.:200:
The photos are taken during the first three flights by my wife who also helps me when preparing and cleaning up the plane after the flights.:198:
I have got a pilot for the Pitts it is from Axel Scale Pilots in Germany he is handmade, very realistic and a little masterpiece.:198:
Here are a couple of photos before he goes into the model.

Best Regards Henrik Hammer

i am fat. out of shape. it sucks. i recently bought a bicycle, a specialized allez triple. it's a nice bike, it's fast. i manged 31mph today, downhill of course. but it is kicking my ass. i have cut my meat eating down to almost virtually zero. practically vegetarian. i don't mind that too much. my wife keeps finding great recipes and i enjoy vegetables. it's also not the bike riding that i hate. i used to ride all the time. about 10 years ago i used to ride a skateboard, a mountainbike, and a roadbike daily. not all at once. usually at least two of them. road at lunch, mountain in the afternoon, and then skating at night. that was 10 years and 60 pounds ago. now i am trying to start biking again. i don't dare try to restart skating due to the fact that i am still recovering from many of those injuries. the main problem is that i think i expect to step on my bike and still be as fast and have the ability to ride 40 miles and i can't. it's a little frustrating having to admit my condition to myself. i see it every time i look in the mirror. but i guess i'm still in denial. but the longer i protect my heart the longer i can fly my airplanes. that's my philosophy, i hope it works.

We're off to the XFC!

In just a bit over 12 hours my dad and I will be on the road to XFC! Planning to get there late, go right to sleep, and be at the field for the qualifier early Thursday morning.

This hasn't been an easy road preparing for XFC. My last blog outlines the early issues. On the second test-flight after the repair, engine power dropped to idle and wouldnt advance. I landed, and after some inspection found that the crash broke the prop hub woodruff key and in the air the prop hub rotated around the shaft. We built a rig to pull the prop hub off and did so. I luckily managed to find the only 2mm woodruff keys in the state, and with some advice from Gerhard at Aircraft International, re-installed the prop hub. We won't be able to run the motor till tomorrow morning or maybe even when we get to Muncie, but I'm confident it's fixed properly.

One last thanks to all the guys who helped me get ready. Thanks to Jeff "Unbalanced" Walker and Chris "CSpaced" Mulcahy for re-building my crashed plane in under a week with zero help from me, as well as all their other support. Thanks to Gerhard and my dad for helping me get this engine repaired in record time. I can't name everyone here, but I appreciate everyone else who has helped or even just offerred help or to lend me equipment.

Well this is RJ signing off. Till after XFC, later everyone!

Tomorrow at 1:00 PM we will depart for Muncie Indiana for the 2008 XFC. I have probably put over 40 flights on my Dalton Aviation Extra 260.
This will be an event I will never forget I just wish a very good friend of mine Allen Taylor could see me in person this weekend fly in this event. I know though he will be looking down from the sky and be there will with me. I would not be where I am today without him.
I plan to go down and just do my best and have a great time no matter what place I finish in. This will give me great experience. I just hope everyone makes it down safely. Good luck to everyone competing. Less than 24 hours we depart for good ole Muncie!!!!

I really dont think my Dalton 260 has ever flown this much before. I bet I have put close to 35 flights on this plane in a week! I have been out at the field this past Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday practicing for the XFC. This past week was my only week to really practice due to me graduating the week before from high school. I am still not full ready but I am going to go down and give it my best shot. Luckily though I did get the known maneuvers down!!! Plus I still got Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday to practice. We plan to leave out Wednesday around noon and head half way or more then spend the night somewhere and Thursday morning finish it off!!! Yes I will be nervous but going to try to have a lot of fun!!!

So, a couple days ago, I sliced my finger open. Not to bad, but blood was involved. Anyways, I cleaned the cut after work and then used a bandaid. Ok? So, tonight, after a bandade and a couple rounds of tape, I figured that it was getting old trying to keep the cut clean with a little piece of tape, and I would revert to my old meathods of CA glue. Now, CA is a great way to fix a cut. My little brother cut his forehead when he was like two, and I used thin CA to put pull the skin together and everything worked perfect. No scars, as far as I know. My parents were wiggin out though. An ER trip was about to happen when I stepped in, but none the less, I'm rambling and back to my story:

My thin CA dried up.(I don't break my planes...yea, that's it) So I used foam safe CA and here's teh kicker, accelerator. Has anyone ever used that stuff on themself before? It seemed to work great for me, hopefully a better bond than thin CA.:198:

An ER trip was about to happen when I stepped in, but none the less, I'm rambling and back to my story:

so apparently later this year the aptera will be released in california. if you don't don't know the aptera is a new car (sorta) that will be releases as two different models, the type 1e and the type 1he (i think). the 1e is electric that runs on lipo's and gets about 120 miles to a charge, and the 1he is a gas-electric hybrid that gets on average 300 mpg. they accomplish this through aerodynamics. studies have shown that the average car uses 70% of it's energy just moving air out of the way. well the aptera, looking more like an airplane, solves that problem through streamling and a few other neat tricks such as only having three wheels. due to it's weight and the three wheel configuration it's classified as a motorcycle, but because it has three wheels and it's totally enclosed you aren't required to get a motorcycle license or wear a helmet. and it has indy car style safety features, but as of right now it will only do about 85-90mph instead of 200. check it out at www.aptera.com. and it's a lot cheaper then the tesla roadster, although not as fast.

i see so many people who build these amazing 1/4 scale and larger planes from scratch, and here i am trying to tweek some homebuilt 3d foamies. lame. but they're fun as hell. my first one, extra 300, was fun and flew well, but it was too nose heavy and hit the ground wrong upon landing and removed the motor mount. i'm going to build a new one. stronger....faster....less nose heavy. it's fun to fly something that you built from nothing, even if it's as simple as a little foamie. but i still give preference to my PA addiction. best plane ever. let me throw in some props for rcfoam.com. i ordered my foam and carbon strips on a friday afternoon around 3pm and then at 9:30am saturday it was on my porch. and they threw in a sheet 6mm depron for free to go with my 3mm sheets. i think in the next few weeks i am going to download the directions for dave powers' 6mm depron f-117 and start building it. it looks like a fun plane.

The lowest takeoff roll EVER.

With the indoor season finally over and the weather getting good for some giant-scale flying, I've been putting the gallons through my 102" Quique Yak. I took it down to Joe Nall, flew a few times, and had a blast. While there Andrew and Frank put a dangerous thought into my head... to come out to Muncie for the last-minute XFC qualifier. We talked about it a bit, and I spent the ride home listening to music, planning my freestyle.

So, in the past few weeks since then, I've been getting used to my still fairly new Yak, pushing the envelope and seeing what it's capable of. I flew it in a demo at our club's open house last weekend, and in the past week started practicing my XFC routine. That's when the trouble started...

The day of the demo, I took the plane up in the morning to get used to the field and practice a bit. 2 minutes in, I did a snap, and the plane came out with some down elevator trim. I landed, only to find a couple of hinges in my right elevator had come loose, apparently from some smoke oil contamination. We pulled it off, and with the help of Chris (CSpaced), mixed up some epoxy and put her back together. An hour later the epoxy was set, and the shakedown flight went without a hitch, as did the demo. Later that day one of my side-force generators broke in the air... a sign of things to come.

That night I cut a set of SFG's from plywood to continue flying. A day or two later, I went to the field to fly. The grass was a little higher than usual, but I didn't think much of it. Put the Yak together, taxied out, and took off. Apparently I managed to find the roughest spot on the runway to take-off through, because immediately off the ground I could see that one of my wheel-pants was falling apart. Not too suprising, as they already sufferred some damage from the rough field before. I set up to land, and despite setting the good wheel down first and immediately applying full 3D-rate up elevator, the pant caught and flipped. Oh, great. Luckily, all the damage was a broken prop. That night I drove out to Chris's house and borrowed a new prop.
Yesterday, he came out to out field and we put a few flights on. A couple of minor issues later, we got a problemless flight. I decided I need some more torque on my ailerons for my freestyle, so last night I installed new servos.

Now we come to the fateful day, today. I took the Yak out to CCRC to test fly it. Cranked it up, everything sounded great. As I taxied out, Chris told me not to do my characteristic low roll-to-inverted on takeoff. I said of course I wouldn't... I planned to treat it just like a first flight to see how the servos performed.

Throttle up, little left rudder for the x-wind, pull it off the ground. The next 3 seconds are a blur. The plane started rolling. I corrected, but the plane didn't react. It rolled to KE with the wing tip just inches off the ground, then inverted, then as it tried to make the 3rd quarter of the roll, the wingtip caught. Cartwheel, another broken prop, but more this time. The left wing has some broken sheeting, and the nose of the airplane has to be recontructed. The motor came out with the cowl... the firewall still attached. The rudder got some damage too.

Still in shock, we walked out and carried the plane back. We checked out the equipment, and except for a now-stripped aileron servo, everything worked just fine. I was disgusted, but within a few minutes Chris and Jeff (Unbalanced) were already discussing fixing the plane. Jeff offerred his services in fixing the plane, and Chris volunteered to help too. Jeff let me fly his Cap and Ultimate to prove to myself I can still fly. We spent the rest of the day flying and tearing up a gas car... good times.

Now it's sunk in... looking over the plane again, it's not going to be THAT hard to fix. I'm taking the plane over to Jeff's later tonight so we can start attacking it. Goal is to get it flying within the next several days, so I can get SOME practice in before we leave.

I have to thank Chris and Jeff for helping me out. With only 12 days before the contest, these guys have stepped in to get me back in the air. I'd be grounded otherwise.

So, I'll be busy the next few days. I still have to figure out what exactly caused the uncommanded roll... that won't be an easy task.

Oh... and if anyone in the Greensboro, NC area has a spare new-style 3W twin ignition module they wouldn't mind lending me, let me know... mine got pretty well demolished in the crash.

Movie review: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

So, is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull any good? Maybe. It all depends on your expectations.

If you've seen the trailer, you've probably guessed that the fourth Indy movie includes not only bad guys, his son, and a chick with a hot accent.

So, I'll try not to give away the plot the way I did in my Iron Man review...(lol)

The fourth Indiana Jones movie is unlike the previous three in the fact, that Indy is, actually old. I was glad that they didn't try to spin him as the guy that he was in Raiders of the Lost Ark but chose to use him the way that would seem natural. With this being said, he can still hold his own pretty darn well.

The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is being accused of being "cheezy" by some of my friends, however, in my opinion, it wasn't overly cheesy. Granted, it's kindda hard to make a new Indy movie after what? 20 years? and not be cheesy.

That being said, they did a good job, but all the blocks kindda fell into place. The movie didn't seem as sporatic as the previous three movies did.

If you're looking for a hot and steamy movie, this isn't the one. Indy is still on his game, but he does surrender some of the key fighting scenes to those with him. If you're thinking of the sword fight on the bridge in Temple of Doom or the hand to hand fighting near the airplane in Raiders of the Lost Ark you will probably enjoy the driving through the jungle action sequence in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Granted, just like in the previous movies where one or two other folks have helped Indy win, this time, you have a couple more, not to mention a sword fighting sequence between two cars with Indy's son, "Mud".

Speaking of, Henry Jones III seems to be being bred to take the reigns in the next movie, or in future movies.(think Anakin Skywalker becoming Darth Vader, or not)

If you can go watch this movie without thinking about previous Indy movies, I think you'll probably enjoy it. If your expecting a full on Indiana Jones movie with action sequences from cover to cover, you'll probably come away with a negative view.

Overall, a key movie in continuing the Indiana Jones dynasty that was, in my opinion, played well, but slightly cheesy. Not a bad movie, by all means, but definitely not the best "Indy" movie.

I give it four out of five stars.

Knowledge is the key to wisdom,
Your movie theater is your key to "Crystal Skull"

That's my cheesy quote of the day.(I just made it up) I hope you enjoy Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

I probably sprained my ankle this morning..... again. In the last year, I've hurt both ankles and a knee. I must be getting old. That or stupid. Probably both.

I'm so going to feel this when I wake up. I only have a limp right now. Last time, when I woke up, I couldn't put any weight on my foot.(found that out the hard and pointy way)

Anyone know what I should do to avoid injuries like this? I can't just stop being active. Afterall, I need to work off all that wonderful food that Mikedanielle, RC Chief, and 66Stang hooked me up with at the Nall.(I really do appreciate it :198:)

I Am America(And So Can You) is the new book from Steven Colbert, host of the Colbert Report on TV somewhere.

I just picked the book up yesterday, and have, surprisingly, read about half of it. Now, this is very surprising for me as I just couldn't sit and read a book for the life of me.(In fact, I have three other books that I haven't finished)

Steven Colbert, a former Democratic Presidential candidate in South Carolina, has filled this book humorous opinions that make you think as well as laugh.

Whether it's talking about old people, religion, race, politics, or dating, you can trust that you will find at least something to laugh about.

I enjoyed the dating chapter and would like to thank Mr. Colbert for my new pick up line.:198:

that is the question....

I've been going back and forth on what I want to do. Origionally, I was going to do a Friday evening/Saturday trip, then something came up on Saturday. I might take some vacation days and do a Thursday/Friday trip. But is it worth it?

I dunno....

Just kidding!

Watch it! One of the best movies I've seen recently.(maybe because I don't watch many...) Anyways, I'm definitely going to buy it. And for me to say that, it has to be good.

So, on Monday, I start working swing shift.(3:00PM to 11:00PM) The only problem is that I'm a morning person. I'm usually up around 4:00AM-5:00AM and trying to sleep late may be very difficult.
Usually, on swings, folks will go to bed about 5:00AM. My goal is to get to bed between midnight and 1:00AM and sleep to 9:00AM to 10:00AM.

Anyone have any wisdom?
