I'd like to thank everyone for all the suggestions and an extra thanks to Bob for offering to help me grind on it. After reading all the comments I think the best thing to do is strip the engine and radio gear out and buy a new plane. $600 to fix an old plane just doesn't seem worth it, not to mention all my time. I can probably get $200 for it at the Georgetown swapmeet. I asked my wife to get me a JR 9301 2.4gh radio for Christmas, I think I'll change that to a plane and keep my 8103 for another year. She saw Mikes plane at Kingsbury and said " I think you should get a plane like that and fly like that", who am I to argue . A 40% like Mikes is a bit more of an expense then I would like to take on. Does anyone have a good candidate for my G62, low wing loading and fuse no more then 78" to fit in my truck? Thanks, Lonnie |

Any of the the big 88/89/90 inch 30% percenters mioght make good candidates. Off the top of my head I would look at the Airwild 260, the H9 Yak, the Extreme Flight YAK/Extra. These planes are floaters.

The G-62 can work good on the Extreme Flight 88 inch Yak. Mine pushed the Vess 23A to 7800 rpm static. This is the RC Ignitions lightened G-62 and E Composites pipe. Batteries wound up on the pipe tunnel just behind the rudder servo. Great wing loading for a 50CC and the G-62 fitted inside the cowl completely. Richard

I would look at selling the G62 on RCU..and taking a little more money and get a DL-50. The G62 just is not the right engine on a 3d / IMAC type plane. There is nothing wrong with the engine and those things are rock solid...just not for that kind of plane.

I think the plane in the video appeared to have enough power for that plane. For the $, seems like a good choice.

Why does it fly terrible, is this in comparison to a modern plane, just interested. I do agree sell it and buy a lite plane and new engine, or just fly it knowing its a heavy plane? Its not as easy as everyone suggests as sometimes you have an engine and not the finances to buy both the new plane and new engine so a compromise has to be found. I like the ef vid it just shows a wouldn't be suggested combo does work. Mark |

Mark, The plane has so much wing loading that it must be flown at or near full throttle. The engine will pull the plane through a loop, barely, knife edge is also full throttle or it drops.. I can't slow the plane down and relax, just not fun. WrongWayRC, Nice plane, I'd get one expect it won't fit under my truck bed cover. I've looked at a lot of planes and the Yaks seam to have more wing area for the wing span which I think translates in to less wing loading. The SD 30% Yak looks like it might fit the bill. I'm going to CA for Thankgiving so I guess I'll have time sort through all the options. Lonnie |

Hi Lonnie, thanks for the reply, sounds like a not much fun plane to fly? Good luck with whichever new plane you decide on, yaks are just great i have the qq and gp, qq flies superb. Yes more weight on a lite plane gives it extra wing loading and needs to be flown faster and lands faster, i can testify to this having a small ef extra with a os91 4stroke in, flies faster than the lighter electric version or saito powered, still flies great though. So i can only imagine heavy engine on a heavy plane makes it like a missile to fly. Mark |

Surprising to me was, I installed my 3W56 iB2 at 4.1# bare with a Mac's muffled tuned pipe into my GP Ultimate. It flew better than it did with the ZDZ50 on a wrap around that was a Whole pound lighter. So you might look around for a good used ultimate if you need a plane to fit your pickup.

All, What is your opinion of the QUIQUE SOMENZINI 86" YAK 54 ARF? Comes with CF tubes and includes the needed hardware. The only thing I don't like are the CA hinges. I'd have to replaced those with Robart pin hinges. Lonnie |
