Help! GP cap 580 or Eagle

Hey guys, I need some advise on the set up on the GP cap 580. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a brand new kit. It seems very nice in every aspect. The manual gives the pilot some different set up configurations. What seems to work the best?
I am a little concerned about putting the large servos on the rear of the fuse rather than building a pull-pull system?? I do have the larger size servos 5050 as well as 8411's that I could use.
Maybe some one could send me some pics of there set-up?? that would be very helpful.

components being used:
DL 111
jr8411 servos
fut 5050 servos
Smart Fly system turbo w/ign kill
2.4 reciever
lipo 2500mah X 2 reciever packs
2500nimh ignition batt
standard hareware with kit
vess 27b prop

Thanks, I agree. However, the manual says the opposite. It says to finish everything before mounting the wing tube, as there are two positions it can go in.
I am really more concerned with flight characteristics than the balance.

i am flying the first edition and have a pull pull system in mine. I tend to like very clean setups so if i can hide a servo then i will. I use the two different wing tube sets for the flying i plane on doing

Im learning a lot about this plane. I did not know you could fly with either position? Seems like a lot of balance difference.

I have the older version also. I thought the forward position (wingtube) was for setups using the DA 85.? I am running a DA 100 with servos in the tail and the aft position. Flies really well.

Okay now that I am on a Great Planes Cap thread (this time) I'll ask what kinda weights you guys comin' up with? The first version.

I plan to use a DLE 111 in the one I have coming. I'm thinking this plane is unique in the duel position wing placement ?

I like Caps with the short nose moment but maybe with the twin it needs the wing in the rear placement. Or maybe I can pull some wood out of the fuse behind the wing tube and use the front position.

Since this plane came from the factory ARC I have choices ! I think this one is gonna be fun.

Zoom,

I had a first gen this summer with Carbon Tubes, Gear and DLE111. I also had it setup on the rear wing tube with 2 9152's on the rudder in a pull pull setup.. Because of the Carbon parts I was able to get to 27.5lbs without fuel.. If I ever come across another NIB 1st gen I would build another!

Good Luck,

Ed

Here's some pics of my recovered Gen 1 580. It's setup with a 3w 106 with pefa cans that run over top of the wing tube by using re-curve headers. It balances on the front tube position with no extra weight an flies very smooth with the added tail moment.

Hey thanks for your reply. I just wonder one thing. I have heard from two people with the DLE 111. Both had the rear tube placement and both had pull-pull rudder. I'm wondering if the push-pull arrangement could result with forward tube placement.

I am also wondering which placement makes the palne happeir for IMAC style flying versus 3D. I like the plane to groove first. Maybe one day, maybe not I will look into the other style some. But not with this plane. I have a Yak I am sure would be suitable for that should I decide to to do that.

Hey Dennis,

Sweet looking CAP. I really like the covering scheme. I am interested in the split cowl because I was considering doing that to mine.... Any detailed photos? About how much weight did it add?

Push Pull would make it harder to balence on the forward tube... I had to move my Batteries to the rear of the Canopy hatch to balence with a pull pull and rear tube. I was able to balence on the forward tube by moving my batteries to the fuel tank area...

Mine flew IMAC very well on the Rear tube... And tumbled like nothing else!!

Good Luck,

Ed
