One note/question.

With the 40 number being the maximum safe limit it sounds like radio impound at large events will still be a requirement to prevent the scenario where many people are flying or getting in the que and too many others are "just fiddling and tweaking" planes in the pits type of thing. So the habit of radio "control" should not be flushed too quickly.

Would the above be an accurate and safe statement?

Thank you for all the information so far.

Max, dude, you should be a proud puppy. This site has done nothing but get better since I have been a member.
no need. if the transmitter does not have 2 free channels to use, it will not allow itself to communicate with the reciever(s). It needs two channels. if it doesn't have them, it will not talk to the plane. At least this is what i understand of the 2.4system. correct me if I am wrong.

The Spektrum Modules Only 8 channels on the 14MZ. And you have to set your Xmitter to PPM (FM) to get it to work, so you won't have Failsafe.
Still waiting for Xtreme link! But still cool and nice!

Read back a few pages flyingklown, failsafe is fully supported in the receiver and is set up during the binding process.

The 9 channel receiver for JR appears to have 9 channel slots plus 2 additional slots that are perpendicular to the 9 channels. Are there additional slots for battery inputs? I'm hoping so because I have a 35% plane that uses 8 channels for servos and needs 2 more slots for my dual batteries. Otherwise, if you had to use 2 of your channel slots for batteries you'd only have 7 channels left for servos.

How do you figure that?? First, JR does not own Spektrum, or at least Paul Beard and Horizon don't think so. SO that makes your statement hard to understand.

Second, if SS is so critical for you there are two systems for now (Spektrum and XPS) that will work.

Third, I sincerely doubt that Futaba is unaware of the market trend, so I am confidant that they will have something as well.

But finally, the 14MZ is SO much more than just the RF deck. If all you are concerned about is the RF deck, buy a DX-6. If that works for you then the 14 is truly a waste of money.

However, I love my 14MZ for its ease of programming, flexibility, and ability to solve even my most complex programming issues. The RF deck is secondary to me. I may eventually go SS, but since I have not had a glitch in I cannot remember how long and I also fly ham band and essentially always make sure I am on a channel all by myself (thanks to the synthesized ham band RF ability of the 14MZ) I am not in all that big of a rush.

But I cannot see any way that the 14MZ has been "left in the dust". Especially by JR since they have zero to do with the new modules from Spektrum.

The side ports are for the secondary RXs you can use. As far as your battery plugs go, use a "Y" on any channel, works like a charm. You do NOT have to plug a battery into a port all by itself.

That was answered a little earlier Tony, 1 is for batt. and 1 is for the data connection for an onboard data module, don't remember what he called the module, but it gave you a bunch of on board and in flight info.

I have also seen photos showing up to two of the secondary RXs plugged into the side ports.
