Default Re: MAJOR 2.4 Ghz Spread Spectrum Release!

I am interested in integrating your SS module in the ACE MicroPro 8000 transmitter. I have several questions.

1) Is the interface from the transmitter the PPM signal?

2) The Futaba module says DM8 so I assume, 8 channels and not 9 for the 9C.
a) If I send the futaba module 9 PPM signals will the AR9000 accomodate them?

3) Is the JR interface PPM?

I may have other questions later.

Thanks,

Dan Thompson

Unless Spektrum has reverse engineered the Futaba PCM data stream, then they would have to use PPM. I don't know for a fact, but I have heard that at least some of the 9ch Futaba systems won't output more than 8 channels in PPM mode.

If the system uses PPM, then we are stuck with the update rate of a standard PPM system, somewhere around 20ms. The newer Futaba systems (12MZ and 14MZ) using G3 PCM have faster update rates, and I suspect any 2.4ghz module and receivers that Futaba comes out with will probably utilize the PCM data stream, or possibly have a firware update for something even better for their 2.4ghz module.

Now this is purely speculation on my part since I don't know for sure. However, it will be interesting to see what Futaba comes out with for their 12 and 14MZ radios. I don't have one of those systems, but I have a lot of the older 7, 8 and 9 channel radios. I will be looking seriously at the Spektrum modules for my radios.

The other question I have is regarding the binding of the recievers to the programmed model in the computer radios. The DX7 won't allow the wrong model to operate with a given program, I don't see how this can work in the other radios since there is no way to bind each programmed model.

Thinking out loud,

Bob R.

By all accounts, you are correct, Bob . taking PPM and translating it into the SS datastream with proprietary encoding, is much easier than decoding the proprietary Futaba, JR, hitec, etc etc etc signal and then recoding it for use with the Spektrum system.

After all, its a universal PPM signal, used by all manufacturers. Unfortunately, to get more channels, using PCM, you need digital encoding, so 8-9 channels is the limit for this process.

Still. . anyone out there use more than 5-6 channels most of the time?? I certainly don't.

I have heard a lot about how responsive and how fast the DX7 is... Are these modules on a 9303 or 9c going to be fast and responsive also? What kind of resolution will we get?

According to the text the AR9000 receiver can accept 1 or 2 auxilliary receivers, like the AR-7000 has an aux receiver on a dongle.

The pricing does not show a price for the secondary receivers.

Does the AR-9000 receiver already have an aux unit that comes with it? What is the price of the aux receiver if I want to add one?

Also the AR-9000 showed 9 servo connectors plus two others. Are these for dual power inputs?

so I guess we cant use the same transmitter for 2.4, and 72 seeing as the antenna actually has to come through the transmitter.

BIG SNIP

Thinking out loud,

Bob R.
You are correct. The Futaba 9C is only 9 channels in PCM mode. It only transmits 8 channels in PPM mode. The reason I asked the question of 9 PPM channels with the Futaba module is, it is apparent the Futuba module uses the same AR9000 that the JR module does and it says 9 channels.

As a little back ground: I was granted the rights to the firmware for the ACE MicroPro 8000 transmitter and am the author of the current level 5 release of that software.

Due to that, I can transmit what ever is required to interface to the Spektrum modules. I just need to know what is required.

Thanks,

Dan Thompson
